(Because I lack the ability to come up with a better title)
"But I thought you said he didn't have one, or he would've shifted by now." I bring up.
"That's why I said it's hypothetical. If he does have a wolf, I don't want it to be too late for me to tell him. I want to give him time to prepare for it so he won't just be thrown under the bus." Hazel sighs. "It's just a concern that came up. The fact that he might randomly shift before I'm ready to tell him."
"How would that happen? You said yourself a werewolf can't just stop a full moon induced shift unless they've actually shifted before and have experience in doing so."
"I know... that's why I said he's a mystery. He doesn't make any sense, Jatix. Because Kanye is fine, isn't he?"
"He's more than fine. He's very powerful. But he's my son. That's the difference."
"Okay, but Rassler, who is Khai's father, was beta. He's a powerful wolf, too. So you being alpha doesn't really excuse anything."
I glower at Hazel, but I don't say anything, knowing she's right.
"I'm sorry. I just really don't understand what's going on with Khai. I need to know, but I can't do it on my own."
I want to help Hazel. I'm just as curious as her, but at the same time, I told both myself and her that she's going to stay out of my life.
"That's something you and Rassler have to figure out. He's not my kid, and not my responsibility."
Hazel opens her mouth to say something, but she closes it again and remains silent. Eventually she dips her head in a nod.
"Goodbye then." I tell her in a perfunctory manner.

***Hazel's POV***
When I open the door to Khai's room, he's sitting curled up on his bean bag, wrapped in his weighted blanket. I notice then that he's also the only one in his room.
"Where's Tyrone?" I ask when he looks up.
"He left to check up on his mom or something. He told me to stay here so I don't get lost."
"Oh. Will he be back?"
"I hope so. What if he gets kidnapped? What if he-" Khai pauses, looking terrified by whatever he's thinking. "What if he gets into a fight with a random drunk stranger who has a knife on him?"
"Oh honey... where do you get these ideas from..."
Khai looks like he is about to say something, but he changes his mind.
"Where does he live?" I ask.
"Mom, I don't even remember our address... how am I supposed to know his? Regardless, it doesn't matter because he's not at his own house anyway. His mom is staying by his grandpa, so if he wanted to see her, that's where he would've gone."
I sit on the edge of Khai's bed, deep in thought.
This kind of interferes with my plans to go find Rassler and figure out what's going on with Khai. I want to tell him, but before I can do that, before I'll be ready to do that, I need to know why he hasn't shifted yet.
I can either wait until Tuesday, when Khai goes to school, to call Rassler over, or I can call him right now, and come clean to Khai.
Somewhat.
