Chapter 1: The Meeting

In the heart of New York City, where towering skyscrapers kissed the sky and hustle and bustle never ceased, Alexis Carter stood at the pinnacle of her career.

"I've heard a lot about you,'' Damien said, his eyes never leaving hers . "They say you're one of the most formidable women in the city."

"And they say you're one of the most ruthless men," she countered, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.

He chuckled, a rich sound that sent shivers down her spine. "I suppose we both have our reputations to uphold."
