"Are you okay, Yasmina?" "Az, are you okay?"

Yasmina looked at Azriel with relief, and some amusement that they'd spoken simultaneously. She sighed and rested back against him, squeezing his hand that rested on her stomach before shaking her head. Cruella hissed angrily, as if she blamed them for the current spitting them out to wherever they were now.

Where were they, anyway? Looking around, she realised they were in a large body of water, with stands looking in. A bad feeling churned inside her stomach, and Yasmina turned to look at Azriel.

"Something's not right," he muttered what she was feeling. "I don't like this. Where are we, Kenji?"

Kenji gripped his oar like someone was going to take it from him. "We're in the Jurassic World Lagoon," he said. "And so is the Mosasaurus." Darius's follow-up gasp told Yaz enough to know that they were shit out of luck if they thought the Mosasaurus was a petite little fish dinosaur.

Cruella warbled frightfully and tucked herself between Yasmina's legs, golden eyes flickering every which way. That's when a bass rumble shook the athlete's bones. Literally. It was so loud, she felt the sound it made. "Nuh-uh. I do not like that," she muttered, squeezing her eyes shut and clutching the kayak's sides.

"It's circling, testing us," Brooklynn whispered, horrified. "It's acting like a shark... We're intruders in its domain, so it's investigating us. Before it gets confident, decides to... to–" Another teeth-rattling bellow from the deep. She hated the thought of hearing that sound above water. Why would they make something like this?

"Get to the stands," Azriel called.

Then they were off, Yaz repeatedly looking over her shoulder as Azriel and Ben paddled like their lives depended on it—which they did. When Azriel hissed, she knew instinctively that his shoulder was flaring. Although clearly in pain, it didn't slow him down. Just another reason why Yasmina admired him. Not the time!

Brooklynn and Kenji were the first to make it to safety, quickly disembarking their kayak and leaning over the rail. She noticed the vlogger looking at their kayak the most. Looking back again, Yasmina glimpsed the Mosasaur's fin poking out of the water behind Darius and Sammy's kayak. She inhaled sharply before looking at the central pillar, which the athlete inwardly assumed was used to help feed the Bermuda Triangle-worthy monster.

Glancing back again, she muttered a curse before getting to her feet and jumping onto the narrow platform. She took off her shoe quickly and started banging on the metal. Thank God for hard soles. "Yasmina, have you lost your damn mind–" Azriel looked around before he noticed what she was doing and cursed.

Just as everyone was safe and on dry land, Yaz realised that she had not thought this plan through. The massive fish was coming her way, and faster than anything of its size should be allowed to. She swallowed and slipped her trainer back on—at least let her die with some dignity.

Suddenly, the chain started to rise beside her. Whatever divine entity was looking out for her– "Grab the chain!" That was not a divine entity, just Kenji being useful for once. Yasmina leapt onto the chain, wrapping it around her ankle. A groan of displeasure escaped her when the motor started moving, so slowly a cripple would have outrun it.

Swinging back and forth, back and forth, Yasmina tried her damnedest to make it move faster, to no avail. The others were shouting at her, but it was Azriel's reaction she focused on most. He gripped the railing, so tightly she wondered if it would actually bend.

Then, the Mosasaurus leapt out of the water with its jaws wide open, and she stared into its gaping gullet with fear so potent it turned her stomach watery. But the prehistoric fish missed its mark, instead clamping down on the cable that bore her weight. Screaming, she swung over the lagoon, the tablet slipping from her life vest, and let go of the chain.
