On the first of September, the Potter family arrived at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, with James leading the way, accompanied by Sirius and Regulus. This year was particularly significant, as Regulus was now also in the same year as them. The change had brought him closer to his brother and their friends, making this journey feel more unified. Peter and Remus had opted to come with their own parents this year, breaking the tradition of joining the Potters.
Upon reaching the platform, the three boys bade heartfelt farewells to James' parents. Sirius and Regulus expressed their gratitude repeatedly, each time earning a warm smile from Euphemia and Fleamont. As soon as the goodbyes were said, they dove into the crowd, eager to find their friends. Along the way, they greeted familiar faces, including Ravenclaws Emmeline Vance and Hestia Jones, as well as Mary.
As they approached the train, James spotted a flash of dark red hair. Turning, he saw Lily Evans saying goodbye to her parents. She looked different—her hair was darker and longer, and her emerald eyes seemed more striking. James couldn't help but notice how good she looked, a thought that apparently didn't escape Regulus either.
"Prongs!" Sirius called, waving a hand in front of James' face. "What're you staring at?"
James snapped out of his daze and gestured towards Lily. "Is that Evans? She looks... different."
Sirius glanced over and snorted. "Looks like the same pain in my arse that I got rid of at the end of last year."
"She does look different, though, since we last saw in the hols," Regulus interjected thoughtfully. "Her hair's darker, and she seems... more confident or something."
James nodded, still a bit stunned. "She's pretty fit. I don't remember her being that fit last year."
Sirius shot him a disgusted look. "You better not get all moony over Evans, Prongs, or I might have to seriously reconsider your position as my best mate."
Regulus chuckled. "Relax, Sirius. James has got more self-control than that. And honestly, she's always been nice to me."
James tore his gaze from Lily, grinning. "You can always replace me with Remus or Pete, Sirius. You've got options. And yeah, Evans has always been nice, especially to Regulus."
They boarded the train and made their way to their usual compartment, where they found Remus already seated. He looked up with a grin as James opened the door.
"Hey, Moony!" James greeted, pulling Remus into a hug. They quickly settled in, exchanging stories and catching up. Remus, slightly shorter than James now, seemed to have grown more confident over the summer.
As they chatted, the compartment door slid open, revealing a flustered Peter. "Wormy!" Sirius exclaimed, beaming. "You made it!"
Peter grinned. "I made it," he echoed, closing the door behind him. He was greeted with hugs and laughter, the group delighted to be reunited.
Suddenly, Sirius remembered something and turned to Remus with a mischievous grin. "Merlin, Moony! Show us that prefect badge!"
Blushing, Remus fished out the badge and held it up. Sirius pretended to wipe away a tear. "Our little Prefect Moony. So proud!"
Remus pinned the badge onto his robes, still blushing. "Dumbledore only made me prefect because I'm the most rule-abiding of the lot."
James smirked. "At least, as far as they know. You've got a trustworthy face."
"Regulus, I'm surprised you havent been made prefect this year since you moved up," Peter said
Regulus shrugged. "I doubt it. With my association with you guys I am a troublemaker."
