Ch.8-Ready to go?

Ophelia finished packing and grabbed her luggage. She set it down in the living room and glanced at the clock.

They were leaving for California today. While she waited, she checked her suitcases, making sure nothing was missing. Ophelia was very excited to see her family and bring Darryl along with her. This would be his first Thanksgiving. And he was spending it with her.

There was a knock at the door. She opened the door, and Darryl stood with his own bags.

"Hey," she greeted him. "Hey, Phelia. Do you need help carrying your bags?"

"No, it's ok. I didn't pack much. Just some necessities." She held her luggage, and the two made their way downstairs. She stopped walking and slapped her forehead. "What's wrong?" Darryl

asked worriedly. "I just thought about this. How will we get to the airport?"

"Mother's taking us." After he said that, a red Porsche pulled up in front of them. The passenger window rolled down, Katherine being in the driver's seat. She waved at the woman. "Good afternoon, Phelia!" She waved back. "Good afternoon, Katie!" Not wanting to waste anyone's time, she jogged to the trunk and put her bags in. "I call shotgun!" Ophelia shouted. She jumped in the passenger's seat while Darryl sat in the back, behind his mom. "Is everyone buckled in?" Both said yes, and they drove off to the airport.

The two got their luggage out of the trunk. They said goodbye to Katherine, and she drove off. They looked at each other. "Have you ever been on a plane?" Ophelia asked. "Once. It's been a while, though."

They went through the process needed in order to get on the plane. Ophelia and Darryl talked and watched multiple movies. The ride wasn't so bad. If she were by herself, she'd throw up due to anxiousness. They began to show each other what kind of music they liked. "I really enjoy James Brown's music," Darryl said.

"I think I've only heard one of his songs."

"Yeah? I love it! It's real funky. I'll certainly have to put you on his music." She shifted in her seat, making herself comfortable. "I'll hold you to that."
