Dear Reader,
This is by far one of my favorite pieces of work I've written. It was inspired by Band of
Brothers written by Stephen E. Ambrose and the docuseries produced by Tom Hanks. In the docuseries, there are testimonies by the real men of Easy Company. I was so inspired by these brave men. But this story specifically was inspired by Warren "Skip" Muck, who was killed in action in Bastogne, Belgium at the young age of 23, and his fiance Faye Tanner. When asked about who he had at home, his answer always remained the same: Faye Tanner. His love for her lasted overseas and to the end of his life. I decided that if Skip and Faye couldn't have their happily ever after, I could give some kind of tribute to them. I tried to really bring them to life with not only their love for each other but the love they had for other characters. Such as Steven's interactions with Bill Guarnere, Joe Toye, and George Luz, all of whom were part of Easy Company in World War II, and how he viewed them as his brothers. I really tried to show the suffering that the men of Easy Company went through and the anguish that Fanny felt while waiting for Steven to come home. And as cheesy as it sounds, I wanted to sort of convey the theme of "love outlasts all", that was heavily inspired by Skip and Faye. Overall, I am very proud of this and I hope that I would have impressed the men of Easy Company as well as their families.
Sincerely, Dottie
