"May, there you are! Headmaster Gema's been looking for you all day!" Azelf cried, flailing her arms at the group. "Whaddya doin' hanging about with this group anyway? Where've you been all day?"
"I had business with Kayla's team. Various maintenance on the needs and roles of their PETs and such," May replied. She lied so casually that even Kayla could have been convinced. "Kayla's a very awkward case, what with her hands not working and such."
"Oh. Okay. Fair enough. But hurry up, Gema's getting kinda mad waiting for you," Azelf calmed down.
May glanced at the team at the dinner table. "I guess I won't be eating with you after all," she bowed and then hopped off.
"That's fair, you're a busy Pokémon. Thanks for all the help today," Kayla replied blankly. Ashe had left them earlier, leaving just Team Daybreak at the table, minus Kari who had promised a surprise with taking their orders. Night had fallen by now, so the dining hall was filling up with nocturnal Pokémon. Even still, it was cosy and quiet, quieter than their early mornings, and the chefs didn't look overworked for once. Kayla leaned back and groaned. "Man, part of me was hoping she'd stick around for longer. She seemed happy to eat with us."
"Good riddance, I say. Bitch is nothin' but trouble," Pola grumbled absentmindedly. She was distracted scratching her paws.
"What's your beef with her, anyway? I don't think I ever asked," Kayla cocked her head.
"She's a bitch," Pola replied. Kayla waited for clarification. "What? That's all there is to it."
Shannon sighed. "The fact that you can still say that after everything she did to help us today."
"The fact that you wanna argue after she pretends you don't exist," Pola added.
"... Dare I say who's acting like the bitch right now?" Kayla joined in.
"Ugh. Do not start. I'm too hungry for this."
"Well while we're waiting for Kari, you might as well tell me what's up. She may not be part of the team, but she's going to be working with us a lot, so get used to her sticking around," Kayla became cross.
Pola finally acknowledged her, tilted her head back to groan, and then leaned across the table. "She hates boys. A lot. And I mean, utterly despises them."
Kayla's brow furrowed.
"And I'm a gal who goes dating a lot, right? C'mon, put two and two together already," she swished her paw.
"So by extension, she can't stand you or Shannon. But like, why? It's obviously not enough that she can still work with us," Kayla asked.
"I wouldn't underestimate the scope of your powers," Shannon said quietly, but seriously. "Remember the reason I'm here... Pokémon who have something they want more than anything in the world will stop at no lengths to get it, no matter what it is."
