"Logan! Where the fuck are my glasses?" The younger Harper sibling stormed into her older brother's bedroom, causing him to jump at the suddenness of it.

"You have about a million pairs of sunglasses, Ev. How am I meant to know which ones you're talking about?" The boy replied in a pacific manner, but it was clear that there was something that seemed to be amusing to him.

"The ones dad gave me! Now where are they, you prick?" Evelyn snapped at Logan, before she got the bright idea to practically rip his room apart in search of said glasses.

Her older brother sat on the edge of his bed, an amused expression on his face as he shook his head, watching her.

"You know where they are I ca- mom!"

"Oh come off it, Evelyn."

It didn't take long before their mother parked herself outside of Logan's open bedroom door, looking completely exhausted already.

"Logan, if you don't give your sister her glasses back in the next ten seconds believe me when I say you will be cooped up inside that house all summer long or better yet, you'll be getting a damn job."

The boy groaned at the thought of doing either one of those things. He liked to be outside and doing whatever the hell he wanted, now within reason and whilst being sober but still, the last thing he wanted was to be one of those miserable teens who spent all summer serving drinks to rich snobby people.

With a roll of his eyes, he retrieved the glasses from beneath a pillow beside him and tossed them to his sister before turning to his obviously distressed mom.

"He comin' to say goodbye or does he still think I'm a piece of shit?"

'He', meaning their father. The man was biased. Loved his angel baby girl, hated his piece of shit son; his own words. It wasn't always that way, he was decent until he had to deal with a teen addict and couldn't cope. Grayson liked to blame Logan for the way he turned out, despite his years of favouriting his daughter and pushing the boy into the background.

Despite the family still being physically together, emotionally, they were all miles away. Faith would try to be there for her children so much but it would always backfire in some way. Sometimes she worried so much about her 'baby boy' that she'd forget she had a second child but that wasn't deliberately. She was a good mother and would do anything for her babies.

"Lo, that's not-"

"Mom." Evelyn cut her mother off after seeing the look on her brother's face. He couldn't be fooled, his father hated him, pretty much always had and that wasn't Logan's fault. It was just something he had to live with.

"Your dad's at work and won't get back in time. Sorry kids."

A hum of 'oh' and 'of course' came from the two teenagers. Evelyn was disappointed that she couldn't see her father before the three went away for the summer but Logan wasn't surprised and was genuinely relieved about the news.

"Okay, I want you out of this house in the next twenty minutes or we aren't going anywhere." Mrs Harper spoke, concentrating on her son's face before leading her daughter out of his room, the door shutting behind them.

Once alone, Logan took in the sight of his bedroom. From his (for once) made bed, to his carelessly packed bags, his carefully polished but untouched motorcycle helmet which sat on his desk, right to the box of his ex girlfriend's belongings, he couldn't wait to get away from it all.

This summer was a chance for Logan to clear his head. He had missed the sound of the waves, missed his surfboard and overall, missed the freedom. But unfortunately for him, this summer would be different. No alcohol, limited smoking, limited time on his bike (if he got any at all), limited freedom.

It didn't take long before the boy got snapped out of his daydream.

"Hey." Olivia, his recent girlfriend was perched outside of his now open door. They had broken up the week prior due to Logan's mental health and Olivia's pure insanity. A year. They had dated for a year, fourteen months if you wanted to sum it up exactly. She had left Logan when he needed her most and now she was back.

"Liv.." He replied hesitantly, she was always one of the people he unwillingly had his guard up around; they should've finished with each other long before the breakup.

"Relax, I'm only here to grab my things- hey you didn't trash anything given how fucking unhinged you are." The blonde picked up the box containing her possessions, a snarky smile on her face.

"Can you not talk to my brother like that? Grab your shit and go." The youngest member of the Harper family snapped, stopping in her tracks as she was walking past the room.

Logan and Evelyn were each other's best friends despite the year and a half age gap and the constant bickering. They were so protective over each other, Ev particularly guarding her older brother with her life the previous few weeks. The pair practically served as each other's therapists and were each other's biggest fans. When it came down to it, they'd both do anything to benefit the other.

"God, it was only a joke." The visitor scoffed before flashing a smile at her ex boyfriend and prancing out of the building.

"You ready?" Evelyn frowned softly at Logan who had been put off by something and was now clearly on edge.

"Uh- yeah."

-------------------------------------------------

It had been almost two hours since the teens and their mother had left their home and started their journey to Cousins, the two females as driver and shotgun with Logan in the back, his headphones on and drowning in his thoughts.

"Logan!" The sound of his mom's voice echoed outside of his headphones, urging him to take them out.

Once they were out and he was aware of his surroundings, Logan had realised that they were pulling into the driveway of the Fisher's beach house; the Conklin's had already arrived.

When they went to the beach house, there were two other families there. The Fishers ; Susannah and her two sons, Jeremiah and Conrad who owned the beach house. And the Conklins which consisted of Laurel and her two kids, Steven and Belly. You can imagine how chaotic it got when everyone was in the house. All of the teens were around the same ages (between sixteen and seventeen) with Logan being the second oldest after Conrad.

"No fucking about this summer. You stay away from the alcohol, no smoking and leave that bike alone I beg. I don't care how much Susannah wants you to enjoy it. And for the love of God, be respectful and no fights." Faith lectured her son.

"Mhm, I got it. I got it."

"Oh and remember to have fun. We've had a rough few months, this is our chance to sit back and relax. We deserve it." She smiled at both of her children before getting out of the car, urging them to do the same.

As soon as he stepped out of the car, an unusual feeling shot through Logan's body. Dread. He wasn't looking forward to summer the way he usually would.

It was going to be hard to go into that house and pretend everything was normal and act like he wasn't totally losing his mind but then again, it was his only chance to escape normal life. It was his only getaway. He had to make it last and make this summer count.
