Once practice has finished, I walk into the changing room. The girl from earlier and her lonely blue eyes haunt me. My game was off the whole time because I couldn't stop thinking about her. I shake my head to snap myself out of it. I can't afford any distractions, not with having to look after my siblings. But I can't shake them lonely sky blue eyes, no matter what I do.
Turning the shower to the hottest setting, I climb inside and try to scorch this feeling out of me. I've never felt like this about anyone except from my siblings, a feeling of wanting to protect her from whatever she's hiding beneath that smile. When I saw her on her knees, gasping for air and tears streaming down her cheeks, I immediately snapped into action. Shannon has panic attacks and I would hope someone would help her if they found her in the same position, but I really doubt it because of the relentless bullying she suffers daily in this school. Reaching for my towel, I step out of the shower and wrap it around my waist before walking over to my bag, throwing on some deodorant and rushing to get changed before I get questioned by Alec or Podge about why I was so awful on the pitch today.
The day drags and I leave school when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see the girl from the alley behind me.
"I just wanted to say thank you again for that earlier lynchy" she says, very confident, a certain change from earlier.
"You said that before, you know?" I reply, raising my eyebrows.
"I know but I'm sure you were a bit preoccupied with me earlier" she winks." What was that bruise on your cheek earlier about?"
Her mood suddenly changes. Her eyes widen, she raises her hands to her face.
"Its nothing" she mumbles. "I fell over yesterday at my house" "I promise" before immediately switching back to her confident self.
"What year are you in?" she questions.
She's clearly changing the subject but I don't push anymore and I answer her question.
"4th, what about you?"
"I'm the same."
"Thats weird I've never seen you before" I respond.
"I'm just one of a kind" she tells me, blowing a kiss at me.
Yeah you are, I think to myself.
"I've got to go sorry, I have work" I say in an attempt to push her away, before I get too lost in her.
"Its okay lynchy, I'll see you soon" she pushes my hair out of my face and winks before turning around and walking in the opposite direction.
