Tee Hee! I Completely Misunderstood the Three-Act Structure! Oopsies!
So yeah, I got act 1 right. It's all set up and backstory. The boring shit that turns away most of the readers. And then I got the first half of act two right, build up and rising action. And you can kinda argue that Wren's wind powers counts as a midpoint twist. I guess. Ya'll will see what I mean later.
But. There has not really been an act two climax yet. The boat exploding doesn't count. That's not a climax. That's a disaster. That is literally just a disaster. Not even a crisis. The climax of act two is supposed to be, ya know, actually important and interesting and not just a boat explosion everyone knows they'll survive.I Haven't had My Copy of The Sea of Monsters Since I Began Writing RSM
My family moved very shortly before I started writing RSM so everything we owned was in boxes. I found The Lightning Thief, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. But not The Sea of Monsters! You know, only the book that RSM's plot is entirely based on. The book whose cover I obviously used for the cover of this book! Oh yeah, did I mention that I had the whole series in their first editions?
The worse thing is that the books used to be my brother's, but he lost The Titan's Curse and so I had the whole set except The Titan's Curse. But then a friend found the original cover of TTC at a book giveaway and got it for me as a birthday gift. So I went from an incomplete series, to a complete series with sentimental value, back to an incomplete series. At least we didn't lose that gifted copy of The Titan's Curse. Then I would be really sad.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining too much, but it's just a really ironic situation and I wanted to try to express that here. I'm not too bummed about it, mostly because The Sea of Monsters is kinda the weakest book in the series, but it does kinda suck looking at my bookshelf and seeing Sea of Monsters missing. If You've Read this Far, Congratulations, You're My Favourite Reader!
As a reward-- which is only really a reward if you're reading this within the first few hours of it being published-- I'm going to let you in on the gag: Wren obviously didn't die in the latest chapter. But some people might think I really killed her off just to end the story because I got tired, so I just wanted to put this little note here so that ya'll don't think I actually ended the story like that.
