In a world where 80% of all humans possess a superpower called a Quirk and heroes defend society against villains who use their abilities for evil, video games have become all but forgotten. However, there are still two young kids who have a passion for old games like none other. The names of those two youngsters are Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo.
"Ha ha! I got you this time, Kaachan! You can't avoid my up smash anymore," a green-haired boy said while holding a black Nintendo Switch Pro controller and waiting for the perfect moment to press the input. "Ahhhh, goddammit, move, stupid Ike... Ghaaaaa dammit! The game didn't do the move I input!" screamed an angry four-year-old Katsuki Bakugo before violently throwing his controller against the bed. "Ah, c'mon Kaachan, don't be a sore loser. I won fair and square," said the green-eyed boy with a joyful smile on his face. The two childhood friends were currently playing a game called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as Katsuki grabbed Izuku's collar and said, "Don't give me that shit! I was just about to win when..." before being interrupted.
"Izuku, Katsuki, dinner is ready! Please come down to eat; I made your favorite meal, katsudon," a feminine voice was heard from the kitchen downstairs. "Katsudon!" both boys exclaimed at the same time, before rushing down to the dining table, fighting every step along the way. Sitting down at the table, awaiting their meal, they looked to the kitchen where a slender woman with hip-length green hair and clear emerald eyes stood, finishing the promised dish. This woman was Inko Midoriya, Izuku's mother.
"Did you play that old game your father bought himself in his high school days again, Izuku?" questioned the woman after placing the meal on the table. "Mom, it's not just some old game; it's the most fun game ever created! And just now, I even beat Kaachan at it," the kid in question answered while filling his plate with food. "Bullshit! You didn't beat me at shit, damn Joker main. The game didn't register my input!" yelled the other boy, still with food in his mouth.
"I swear, you'd think kids these days would be fawning all over superheroes like All Might, yet here is my son and his best friend playing a 40-year-old game," the woman explained with a sigh, sitting down at the table and filling her own plate. "Yeah, I mean, All Might is my role model and all, and I wanna be just like him when I grow up and get my Quirk, but these old games are the awesomest thing ever!" said the crimson-eyed boy after finishing his meal.
"DING DONG," a sound was heard, likely from the doorbell. "Well, Katsuki, it seems like your mother is here to pick you up," said Inko before wiping some leftover katsudon from the boy's cheek and bringing him to the door. She then opened the door, revealing a tall, slender woman with the same spiky blonde hair, waiting with her arms crossed.
"Thanks again, Inko, for looking after the brat for me. I hope he didn't break anything this time around," questioned the taller woman before kneeling to pat her son's head. But before the other woman had a chance to respond, an angry Katsuki said, "Who are you calling a brat, you old hag?" pouting with his arms crossed, "And besides, I only break stuff if I want to," only to get hit on the back of his head by the blonde woman.
"Hey! What was that for?" Katsuki exclaimed, holding the back of his head with his hands. "That's for calling me an old hag, you ungrateful brat," retorted the woman.
"Well, Mitsuki, what Katsuki said is true—he didn't break anything this time, and aside from some bad manners, he has behaved very well," Inko said while picking up Izuku.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow in kindergarten, Kaachan!" exclaimed a happy Izuku, before a slightly pouting Katsuki said, "Yeah, whatever. Just don't forget that we're going to the park tomorrow after that," and then walked off, refusing to hold his mother's hand.
"It's like they're always after each other," sighed Inko before closing the door and bringing Izuku to his room and telling him to change into his pajamas.
After Izuku was done, she gave him a goodnight kiss and said, "Sleep well, my little gamer boy," then turned off the lights and left her son's room, heading to the living room to watch some more TV.
The following day at the park
Izuku and Katsuki were having a great time playing their favorite non-video game, "pretend to be heroes," while Mitsuki was watching them from the park bench. The green-haired boy was currently playing the hero, trying to catch the other boy, who played the villain as they had decided by playing rock-paper-scissors.
"C'mon, Izuku, catch me if you can!" Katsuki said, running around the grassy field like a madman, turning and changing directions at every opportunity before being tackled to the ground by Izuku, who waited for just the right moment to strike.
"Hahaha! I got you captured, Kaachan," said the green-haired boy, who was on top of his friend before getting off him and sitting on the ground. He then looked toward the blonde, who was still brushing the dirt and grass off his clothes.
"But I kind of want to go back home and play some more Smash," the green-haired boy stated, letting himself fall back onto the grass, sighing happily.

"Well, I'm not gonna go as long as you're just gonna spam Joker again. It's no fun with that busted character. I wanna play something different, like an open-world game," Katsuki explained, switching to a more excited tone of voice. "Whoa, that's a great idea! Let's play an open-world game with all sorts of cool weapons and magic."

The two boys were discussing what they wanted to play when they got home when suddenly a white holographic screen appeared in front of Izuku.

"Whoa, Kaachan, look! It's like a game screen," the green bean exclaimed excitedly. As Katsuki looked at the screen, he unknowingly placed a hand on Izuku's shoulder and said, "Yeah, you're right; it does kind of look like a game screen, but where did it come from?" He paused, looking confused, before a realization suddenly hit him. "Wait, I think it's your Quirk, Izuku!"
"Huh? Yeah, now that you mention it, that could totally be my Quirk," a surprised and excited Izuku said before starting to read what the screen in front of him, which was seemingly following his every move, said. "Agh, dammit, I wanted to be the first to get a Quirk," yelled an angry Bakugo while hitting his head with his free hand. "You think I should try using it?" inquired his best friend. "Yeah, go ahead, say it, then we'll see if it's even useful," stated a pouting Bakugo, still upset that he wasn't the first to get his Quirk.
"Alright, if you say so, let's test this out," our favorite green bean said, then breathed in before saying with all his confidence...
