Love was orphic. That's what Elodie Delacour had learnt, as a child she grew up reading stories about falling in love however she could never imagine it for herself, the way it happened in books at least. She had assumed this was due to her young age, or her harsh reality of being exposed to her parents toxic 'love'. From this she had realised she didn't really understand love, the yearning and pain of it, so when her parents sent her away she thought it was just another part of their love she didn't understand.

Elodie remembered her childhood as extremely lonely, being an only child was the main reason for this. Growing up, in a large elegant house as a part of a rich and powerful family may have been seen as lucky, but to Elodie everything was extremely empty. From as young as Elodie could remember her relationship with her mother was confusing. Her Veela mother was utterly consumed with the obsession of beauty throughout the whole of Elodie's life. Elodie's ethereal beauty was often commented on by others, she had soft features with angelic pale skin. Gray-blue doe-eyes and almost white, blonde hair. It was no surprise that Elodie Delacour was half Veela. Older Elodie would have been able to see how unhealthy this obsession was but young Elodie's viridity just made her look up to her mother and trail after every step she took. Elodie had began wearing make up at the age of seven and was taught about food restriction at the age of 9. As her mother said 'I'm helping you stay beautiful darling' and 'you don't want to end up ugly do you?'.

When Elodie hit her teenage years, she felt more isolated than ever when she purposefully distanced herself from her mother. She knew what her mother was doing was wrong but that didn't stop Elodie from believing the things she had said and taught. The consequences of her mother's actions finally hit her when she started at Beauxbaton, an all girls school of witchcraft and wizardry. Elodie found herself in a constant mental battle comparing her beauty to the other girls. How clear their skin was, how symmetrical their face was, how skinny they were. But never with her best friend Amora.

Amora was like a breath of fresh air, Elodie was enthralled by her. Elodie always admired her beauty, never challenged by it like her mother taught her to be. 'Women will always be your competition, if you're not the most beautiful, men will not want you. So be the most beautiful.' But this did not apply to Amora. Amora was one of many things, but she was the reason Elodie was sent away.
