"Josh, you better keep kissing me because your words are having a worser effect on me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she leaned closer to him.
He chuckled softly, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he saw her struggle to keep her composure. He knew exactly how to drive her wild. Her childlike innocence plagued his mind. Trying to hold back but unable to resist, he teased her a little more, his lips brushing against hers.
However, their intimate moment was interrupted by the doorbell, forcing Josh to release his hold on Shivi. She couldn't help but giggle at his momentary helplessness.Dinner had arrived, and Shivi eagerly examined the dishes one by one. On the table were butter roti, baigan ka bartha, pesto pasta, and cheese corn balls.
Slightly surprised, she remarked, "Italian and Indian dishes together?"
He threw his charming smile and responded, "When Italian and Indian people can go together, I guess we can have both of them for dinner."
Her tone reflected appreciation and curiosity as she added, "Josh, you're really going above and beyond, and I'm so grateful for your family. They're incredibly sweet. Can I ask you something?"
Josh nodded. Affirmatively. She then hesitantly asked, "Can we go to your mom's room? They will leave in a day, and I want to spend more time with them. I really don't know how it would sound to you, coming from someone of another ethnicity. Maybe I should have never asked. Sorry, I'm getting greedy."
Josh remained silent for a moment, looking at her with an array of emotions. He lowered his head briefly and closed his eyes before shrugging.
Sensing something was amiss, she quickly apologized, saying, "Sorry, I don't know; I shouldn't have asked. Forget that I even asked."
With a hint of remorse, she replied, "Baby, you should not be the one apologizing. I should be apologizing to you, to mom, Gia, and maybe... not to Daniel."
Shivi chuckled at his comment but became concerned about what he meant.
Shivi asked, "What is wrong, Josh?"
Josh admitted, "I am so badly lusting for you that I almost forgot that I've met my own mom almost after a year. But you, being almost a stranger, want to spend time with my family, especially my mom. I am ashamed of myself. They just came here because I called them, but..."
"Shhhh... You just spent time with this family of yours – with me. I don't want you to choose; I will never let you. Because I want us to be one family. Come, let's go and spend as much time as we can with them because it's just going to be just us when we go back to Oxford. Let's eat our dinner and go spend time with your...sorry, our family."
Josh nodded in agreement, his pride evident in his smile, and his eyes glistening with emotion. "I am really proud of you, and today I promise you, Shivi, I will try to bring your family together. I will make them my family too."
Shivi replied with a touch of skepticism, "Wishful thinking." Her face conveyed hope and doubt, reflecting her uncertainty about their opinions.
Within minutes, they walked through the snow to the next dome where everyone was staying. When they knocked on the door, Daniel opened it and was visibly surprised to see them. He moved aside, allowing Shivi to enter. It was a twin room with two domes, each having one bedroom.
As soon as he saw her, Josh hugged Kate tightly. Kate noticed an unsaid regret in his face and asked with concern, "Honey, is everything alright? Did you both have an argument, or is something else bothering you?"
With her demeanor radiating warmth and she assured, "Nothing, Mrs. Andrews. He missed you so much that I thought spending more time with you would be a great idea. I hope we didn't inconvenience you."
With a kind and understanding expression, Kate said, "No, you didn't, darling. After a certain age, children have their own lives, and parents tend to fade into the background. I'm not complaining; it's just the sad reality. I'm sure you suggested coming here because all the boys are metalheads, though their hearts have emotions. I should probably thank you for bringing him here instead of spending time alone with him."
Shivi responded sincerely, "Mrs. Andrews, your son has much more emotions than you think. Family means everything to him, and I'm glad he decided to share his family with me."
Josh hugged Kate and silently mouthed a "thank you" to Shivi without sound. She responded with a happy smile.
Kate, with a warm and welcoming tone, said, "It's interesting that you call me family but still address me as Mrs. Andrews. Ditch the formalities and call me Yaya or Mom, like my other kids."
Shivi nodded in agreement as her eyes glistened.
