The minutes until his lunch break ticked by painfully slowly. Jake tried to focus on his work, but his thoughts kept drifting back to the upcoming evening. He couldn't help but wonder about Sunghoon. When time finally struck lunchtime Jake already felt a wave of relief wash over him, at least now he could rant to his co-workers Sunoo, Jungwon, and Heeseung about it. Jake joined his usual group of co-workers in the break room. As they sat down with their meals, Jake decided to share the unexpected development.
"So, guess what?" Jake began, trying to sound casual but just ended up sounding more awkward. "Mr. Park called me into his office this morning."
Sunoo's eyes widened. "What did he want? Are you in trouble? Or did you get a raise for all your hard work or something?!"
Jake shook his head. "No, I wish it was a raise. But it was nothing like that. He wants me to, uh, babysit his son while he's away at work or on business for the next few months."
Heeseung nearly choked on his sandwich. "Wait, babysit? You're kidding, right? And for a whole few months?!"
"Nope, I wish I was joking." Jake replied, a hint of disbelief still in his voice. "His son, Sunghoon, is coming home from university, and Mr. Park wants me to keep an eye on him."
Sunoo leaned forward, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Wow, Jake, you're so lucky. Mr. Park is super protective of his son. I've heard he doesn't let just anyone near him."
Jungwon nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I've seen pictures of Sunghoon. That guy is insanely hot. You're really lucky, Jake."
Jake felt his cheeks heat up. "It's not like that, guys! I'm just doing Mr. Park a favor. It's extra money, that's all!"
Sunoo raised an eyebrow. "Extra money and a chance to hang out with someone as gorgeous as Sunghoon? I'd take that job in a heartbeat. I mean, if you don't want the job i'd gladly take it!"
Heeseung chuckled. "Sounds like you'll have an interesting few months, Jake. Just try not to fall for the boss's son, okay?"
Jake rolled his eyes, but couldn't help feeling more nervous. He knew his friends were just teasing him, but their words only added to his anxiety. How was he supposed to keep things professional when everyone around him was making Sunghoon sound like some kind of movie star? As lunch came to an end he made his way back to his desk, Jake resolved to focus on the task at hand. No matter how attractive or flirtatious Sunghoon might be, Jake had a job to do. He would stay professional and keep his distance, or at least try to. just as he always did!
But as the afternoon wore on, Jake found it increasingly difficult to concentrate. His thoughts kept drifting to Sunghoon. What if Sunghoon was as flirty and playful as his friends suggested? What if something ends up happening between them? Hopefully nothing happens, Mr. Park would not be proud. By the time the workday ended, Jake's nerves were frayed. He gathered his things and headed to the lobby, where Mr. Park's driver was supposed to be waiting to take him to the Park residence.
