Sunghoon leaned against the kitchen counter, casually crossing his arms as he observed Jake attempting to make himself comfortable on the couch. The evening had taken on a quiet atmosphere, the initial awkwardness between them was slowly disappearing, replaced by a subtle rhythm of fun and teasing that Sunghoon seemed to find amusement in.
"So, Jake," Sunghoon began, his voice carrying a note of curiosity that piqued Jake's attention, "how long are you planning on staying here?"
Jake glanced up from the couch, slightly caught off guard by the question. He hadn't really given it much thought beyond the present moment. "Uh, I'm not really sure," he admitted, his words slow and cautious. "Your dad didn't give me a specific timeframe, just that I should stay until he gets back. So I guess... until then? But i'm assuming for a few weeks." Sunghoon's eyebrow arched slightly, his expression somewhere between amusement and mild concern. "And where exactly are you planning on sleeping? The couch?" His tone was light, but the question hung in the air, waiting for an answer that Jake wasn't quite ready to give. Jake shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of the unspoken judgment in Sunghoon's gaze. The truth was, he hadn't planned anything beyond just staying put. "I mean... I didn't really think that far ahead," Jake confessed, rubbing the back of his neck in a self-conscious gesture. "I just figured I'd, uh, figure it out as I went along, y'know?" Sunghoon's smirk returned, a teasing glint in his eyes as he pushed off the doorframe and took a step closer to Jake. "So, no plan for where you're sleeping, huh? And I'm guessing you didn't pack a bag either?"
Jake bit his lip, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over him. Sunghoon obviously wasn't wrong—he had arrived here on short notice, completely unprepared for an extended stay. "Um yeah, you kinda got me there.." he admitted, his voice quieter now. "I just kind of... showed up with nothing."
Sunghoon's laughter was soft but genuine, not mocking, but filled with a sort of fond amusement. "You really didn't think this through, did you?" He shook his head, a slight grin still playing on his lips. "You can borrow some of my clothes if you want I guess.."
Jake looked up, surprised by the offer. There was a specific tone in Sunghoon's voice that was different from the playful teasing of earlier. It caught Jake off guard, but in a good way. "Okay I guess.." Sunghoon waved off the concern with a casual flick of his hand. "Its fine i wouldn't want you sleeping in the same clothes for the next few days. That's just disgusting" Jake chuckled softly, feeling the tension in his shoulders ease a little. "Yeah, I guess that wouldn't be ideal," he agreed. The idea of wearing the same clothes day after day was definitely not appealing, especially if he was going to be in close quarters with Sunghoon. Sunghoon's eyes flickered with a moment of consideration before he spoke again, his voice softer this time. "You can sleep in my room if you want. The couch isn't exactly the best place to spend the night."
Jake blinked, taken aback by the offer. "In your room? As in the same bed?" he repeated, as if he needed to make sure he'd heard correctly. The idea seemed a little too intimate, but the way Sunghoon had suggested it was so casual, like it was no big deal at all.
Sunghoon nodded, his expression serious for a moment before he flashed a quick smile. "Yeah, why not? Unless you wanna sleep on my bedroom floor like the least liked friend at a middle school girls only sleepover." Jake hesitated, the offer lingering in his mind. Sharing a room—let alone a bed—with Sunghoon was something he hadn't anticipated. It wasn't that he didn't trust him; in fact, he was starting to trust Sunghoon more than he'd expected. But there was an underlying tension, a pull between them that Jake wasn't quite ready to confront.
"I don't want to intrude," Jake finally said, trying to balance his gratitude with a hint of caution. "I can manage on the couch if it's too much trouble." Sunghoon rolled his eyes, though there was a gentle exasperation in the gesture. "Gosh i'm trying to be nice and you're ruining it," he complained. "Like seriously, it's fine. I wouldn't offer if it wasn't." Jake studied Sunghoon's face, searching for any sign of reluctance, but all he found was sincerity. Sunghoon seemed so at ease with the whole situation, as if it was the most natural thing in the world to invite someone into his space. It was hard to say no when the offer was so genuine.
"Alright," Jake finally agreed, his voice tinged with a mix of relief and something he couldn't quite name. "Thanks.."
Sunghoon's smile was quick, a brief flash of something warmer than his usual teasing smirk. "Don't mention it," he said, turning to head back toward his room. "Come on, let's find you something to wear before you stink up the place."
"I SHOWERED THIS MORNING WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE I HAVEN'T SHOWERED IN LIKE 3 WEEKS!"
Jake couldn't help but laugh at that, feeling a weight lift off his chest. He followed Sunghoon down the hallway, the house quiet except for the soft padding of their footsteps on the carpet. The walls were lined with framed photos—some of Sunghoon as a child, others of what looked like family vacations or special occasions. It was a glimpse into Sunghoon's life that Jake hadn't expected to see, but it made him feel a little closer to the boy who had been nothing but a mystery to him until now. They reached Sunghoon's room, and Sunghoon pushed the door open with an easy familiarity. The room was spacious and well-kept, with a large bed dominating the center, its neatly made covers, a A desk was tucked into one corner, scattered with notebooks and a whole gaming setup, and a bookshelf lined with various books. It was a room that felt lived-in, comfortable in a way that made Jake feel oddly at home.
"Make yourself comfortable," Sunghoon said, walking over to his closet. He rifled through the hangers for a moment before pulling out a white t-shirt. Jake took the shirt, feeling the softness of the fabric between his fingers. "Thanks, but are you gonna give me pants or no?" he said, in a joking manner. "Um yeah, my bad" Sunghoon went back into his closet and gave Jake some loose black shorts. "Bathroom's over there." Sunghoon said pointing to the bathroom in his room.
