I awoke sleepily, my eyes adjusting to the brightness of the white hospital room. I heard a soft cooing and a sigh before looking to my right. I saw Harry, sitting back in the chair in the corner of the room, holding our baby. He cradled it in his arms like it was his whole world and if he dropped it, everything would be over. He rocked him gently in his arms, humming slightly. The baby cooed quietly and Harry smiled, his dimples showing. He gently poked at the baby's hand until it opened and grasped Harry's finger in his small hands.
"Oh my god," Harry whispered, his eyes watering up. He held our child as close as he could while still letting the baby grasp his finger.
I coughed lightly, letting Harry know I was awake. He slowly raised his head to me, still smiling, with tears starting to puddle in his green eyes.
"Babe," I said softly, reaching out and stroking his back.
"I'm a dad. This is my kid," he smiled happily, looking back down at our child.
I smiled tiredly before scooting over.
"Come," I said, patting the bed beside me. Harry cautiously stood up, never taking his eyes off our baby. He walked over to the edge of the bed before sitting down and leaning back. I took the baby from his hands as he scooted back and adjusted himself, then placed one arm around me. I cradled our child as Harry cradled me and in that moment I was the happiest I've ever been. This was my family.
"Harry," I said looking to him, his eyes still giddily transfixed on the miracle before him.
"Yeah babe?" He asked.
"He still doesn't have a name," I said.
He pulled his lip between his teeth in thought, but somehow kept smiling while he did it.
"Jack?"
I shook my head.
"Austin?"
I shook my head again.
"Luke?"
"Uh uh."
"Aimes?"
"Nooooo."
He paused, eyebrows furrowed. He gently ran his index finger along our baby's face, down the bridge of his nose and over his tiny little lips, much like he would do to me. He traced every line of his face as if he were drawing a portrait of him, our little miracle.
"Peter." Harry said, more a statement than a suggestion.
I smiled, looking down at our little boy, our little Peter.
"Yeah....."
"Peter."
