Jungwon Yang stood at the gates of the Park mansion, his heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nerves. The grandeur of the estate was overwhelming—manicured gardens stretched out in all directions, and the mansion itself loomed large and imposing, its windows glinting in the morning sunlight. He clutched his suitcase tighter, glancing at his mother, Hye-jin, who was beaming with a blend of pride and apprehension.

"It's going to be fine, Jungwon," Hye-jin said, squeezing his hand reassuringly. "Mr. Park is a good man. We're going to be happy here."

Jungwon nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat. He wanted to believe her, but the reality of starting over in such an intimidating place was daunting. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the heavy iron gates swinging open. A sleek black car rolled up the driveway, stopping in front of them. The driver stepped out, nodding politely as he took their bags.

As they walked towards the mansion, the door swung open, and a tall, distinguished man stepped out to greet them. Park Joon-ho, Jungwon's new stepfather, radiated an air of authority and warmth. He embraced Hye-jin with genuine affection before turning to Jungwon with a welcoming smile.

"Welcome to your new home, Jungwon," Joon-ho said, his voice deep and kind. "I hope you'll come to love it here as much as I do."

"Thank you, sir," Jungwon replied, trying to muster as much confidence as he could. "I'll do my best."

Joon-ho's eyes softened. "Call me Dad, if you're comfortable with it. We're family now."

Jungwon nodded, feeling a little of the tension ease from his shoulders. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

As they entered the mansion, Jungwon couldn't help but marvel at the opulence around him. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceilings, and the walls were adorned with priceless art. The air smelled faintly of lavender and polish. It was a world away from the modest apartment he and his mother had lived in before.

They were led to their rooms, and Jungwon was relieved to see that his was spacious and filled with light, with a large window overlooking the gardens. He unpacked his belongings carefully, trying to make the space feel a little more like his own.

Just as he finished, there was a knock at the door. He turned to see his mother standing there, a soft smile on her lips. "Dinner will be ready soon," she said. "Mr. Park—Joon-ho—wants us to join him and Jay."

Jungwon's stomach churned at the mention of his stepbrother. Jay Park, the golden boy of Cheonghyeon Academy. He had heard so much about him—his popularity, his charm, and his ruthless reputation. Jungwon had hoped to make a fresh start, but the thought of facing Jay was intimidating.

"Okay, Mom," he said, forcing a smile. "I'll be down in a minute."

As they descended the grand staircase, Jungwon heard voices coming from the dining room. His mother led the way, and Jungwon followed, feeling like he was walking into the lion's den. The dining room was just as magnificent as the rest of the house, with a long table set with gleaming silverware and fine china.

Joon-ho was already seated at the head of the table, his face lighting up as they entered. "Ah, there you are! Come, sit. Jay will be joining us shortly."

Jungwon and his mother took their seats, and moments later, the door opened, and Jay Park strode in. He was tall and strikingly handsome, with an air of confidence that bordered on arrogance. His eyes, however, were cold as they swept over Jungwon and his mother.

"Jay, this is Jungwon and his mother, Hye-jin," Joon-ho said, trying to break the ice. "They're part of our family now."

Jay nodded curtly, barely acknowledging them as he took his seat. "Nice to meet you," he said, his tone flat and uninterested.

The dinner was a tense affair. Joon-ho tried to keep the conversation flowing, but Jay's sullen demeanor cast a pall over the evening. Jungwon could feel Jay's eyes on him occasionally, filled with disdain. He tried to engage in small talk, but it was clear that Jay had no interest in getting to know him.

As the meal progressed, Jungwon couldn't shake the feeling that this new beginning might be more challenging than he had anticipated. But he was determined to make the best of it, for his mother's sake and his own. He just hoped that in time, Jay would come to accept them, and maybe even become the brother Jungwon had always longed for.

After dinner, Jungwon retreated to his room, feeling the weight of the day's events pressing down on him. He sat by the window, staring out at the gardens and wondering what the future held. His thoughts drifted to Cheonghyeon Academy and the challenges that awaited him there.

As he prepared for bed, he resolved to face whatever came his way with courage and resilience. This was his new beginning, and he was determined to make it work, no matter what obstacles lay ahead.
