The next morning, Jungwon woke early, nerves jangling in his stomach as he dressed in his new school uniform. The Cheonghyeon Academy emblem, a golden phoenix, stood out against the navy blazer, symbolizing prestige and excellence. Jungwon adjusted his tie one last time, took a deep breath, and headed downstairs.

The breakfast table was a flurry of activity. Hye-jin was fussing over Joon-ho's tie, and the household staff moved efficiently around the room. Jay sat at the table, scrolling through his phone, his expression unreadable. When Jungwon entered, Jay's eyes flicked up, then back to his phone without a word.

"Morning, Jungwon," Joon-ho said warmly. "Ready for your first day?"

"Yes, sir," Jungwon replied, forcing a smile.

"Good. Jay will show you around," Joon-ho continued. Jay's head snapped up at this, a flash of irritation crossing his face, but he said nothing.

Breakfast was quick and silent, with Jay ignoring Jungwon's attempts at conversation. Afterward, they headed to the sleek black car that would take them to school. The drive was short but filled with tension. Jungwon stared out the window, trying to calm his racing heart.

Cheonghyeon Academy was even more impressive in person. The sprawling campus was a mix of modern architecture and historic buildings, with lush green lawns and meticulously maintained gardens. Students in identical uniforms moved about, laughing and chatting, exuding an air of confidence that made Jungwon feel out of place.

Jay led the way, walking briskly without looking back. Jungwon struggled to keep up, his eyes wide as he took in his surroundings. As they entered the main building, Jay stopped abruptly and turned to face him.

"Listen up," Jay said coldly. "Don't expect any special treatment just because you're my stepbrother. Stay out of my way, and we'll be fine."

Before Jungwon could respond, a group of Jay's friends approached, their laughter echoing in the hallway. They greeted Jay with high-fives and playful jabs, barely glancing at Jungwon.

"Who's this?" one of them asked, looking Jungwon up and down with a smirk.

"Just the new kid," Jay replied dismissively. "Don't worry about him."

Jungwon felt a flush of embarrassment creeping up his neck. He knew this would be difficult, but he hadn't expected such open hostility so soon. Still, he straightened his shoulders and tried to appear unfazed.

The bell rang, signaling the start of classes. Jay and his friends walked off, leaving Jungwon standing alone. He consulted his schedule and found his first class: Advanced Mathematics. As he made his way to the classroom, he could feel the curious stares of other students following him.

In class, the teacher introduced him, and he endured the awkward silence as everyone assessed the new arrival. He took a seat in the back, trying to blend in. The lesson began, and Jungwon found some comfort in the familiarity of numbers and equations.

The morning passed in a blur of introductions and new faces. During lunch, Jungwon found a quiet spot in the courtyard to eat, avoiding the bustling cafeteria. As he unpacked his lunch, he heard a familiar voice behind him.

"Hey, new kid," Jay said, sauntering over with his entourage in tow. "Why are you hiding out here? Too scared to face everyone?"

Jungwon bristled but kept his voice steady. "I'm just trying to get through the day, Jay. I don't want any trouble."

Jay's friends snickered. "Trouble? Who said anything about trouble?" Jay replied with a mocking grin. "We're just making sure you feel welcome."

Jungwon's grip tightened on his sandwich, but he remained silent. The last thing he wanted was to provoke Jay further. Jay leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper.
