AMELIA ROLLED HER EYES as her brother JJ's voice rang out across the room. "Where are you going?" he demanded, his brow furrowed with disapproval.

She had been hoping to slip out unnoticed, but it seemed her brother's questioning eyes had caught her in the act. Regaining her composure , Amelia turned to face him. "Just catching up with a couple of people from school," she replied as nonchalantly as she could.

JJ's expression darkened. "Are they kooks?" he pressed, his tone laced with disappointment . "I mean—you used to hang out with kooks back then and all..."

Amelia bristled at his words. "Yeah, they are kooks," she acknowledged, refusing to back down. "What's the big deal?"

"The big deal?" JJ's voice rose in pitch, his frustration evident. "It's a fucking big deal, Ami! Those kooks are always shitting on us Pogues.I mean—look what fucking happened yesterday? How can you just go running off to hang out with them?"

Amelia felt her own temper flare. "It's not that fucking deep, JJ,and if I remember correctly your the one who pulled the gun on Topper."she snapped, meeting his glare head-on. "I can hang out with whoever I want. They don't shit on me, so I don't see the problem."

Her brother's eyes widened, his expression a mix of disbelief and outrage. "Well, they sure as hell shit on me!" he retorted. "And they shit on all of us Pogues. How can you just turn your back on your own people like that?"

Amelia let out an exasperated sigh. "They're not 'my own people,' JJ. I'm not some Pogue loyalist. I'm my own person, and I'll hang out with whoever I want to ." She turned on her heel, yanking open the front door of the Chateau.

"Seriously, Ami? You're just gonna leave?" JJ called after her, his voice tinged with a note of desperation. "What the hell happened to you Amelia?"he scoffed.

Pausing in the doorway, Amelia glanced back at her brother, her expression softening slightly. "Look, JJ, I need to do this. I need to make friends of my own, not just rely on you and the Pogues. I've been gone for so long – I can't just slip back into my old life. Just... trust me, okay?" Without waiting for a response, she slipped out the door, determined to forge her own path, even if it meant defying her brother's wishes.

——————-

As Amelia stepped deeper into the party, the intense aroma hit her senses - a heavy stench of alcohol, cigarette smoke, and the intense scent of substances. She wrinkled her nose slightly, a twinge of unease stirring within her. While the Pogues had certainly indulged in their fair share of intoxicants, Amelia couldn't help but feel a little out of her element here.
