I can't stand your lies

AMELIAS HEART RACED as she heard a shout echoing through the halls of Tannyhill. She instinctively tightened her grip on Rafe, whose wide eyes searched hers for reassurance. The tension in the air was palpable, a stark contrast to the peaceful moments they had shared just minutes before.

Ward Cameron burst into the office, his usually composed demeanor shattered. His hair was tousled, and the lines on his face spoke of sleepless nights and mounting pressure. He paced the room, hands running through his hair as he muttered to himself.

"Amelia, Rafe," he snapped, his voice a mixture of frustration and desperation.

Amelia exchanged a worried glance with Rafe, who seemed to shrink under the weight of his father's distress. She knew that whatever crisis was unfolding, it was pulling them deeper into a storm they weren't prepared for. The walls of Tannyhill, once a sanctuary, now felt like they were closing in, echoing with the chaos of their lives unraveling.

"Is..she alive?" Was the first thing the Cameron boy muttered after leaving Amelia's embrace.

"No." Ward Cameron shook his head.

The weight of the revelation hung heavy in the air, and Rafe's breath quickened as he processed his father's words. The finality of "no" echoed in his mind, each syllable a crushing blow. He felt as if the ground beneath him had shifted, leaving him teetering on the edge of despair.

Ward ran a hand over his face, frustration etched deep in his features. "Amelia, I need you to listen—"

But Amelia's fury erupted, drowning out his plea. "You think I don't know that? I was there, Ward! I saw what happened!" Her voice cracked, a mix of grief and anger spilling into the room. "Kicking me out won't change anything! It won't bring Peterkin back!"

Rafe stepped back, torn between his loyalty to his father and his instinct to protect Amelia. The tension was suffocating, and he could feel the heat of their emotions swirling around him. Ward's expression softened for a brief moment, revealing the pain hidden beneath his frustration.

"Amelia, I'm trying to keep you safe," Ward said, his tone shifting, though it was still firm. "This isn't just about you or me. There are consequences to what we know."

"Consequences?" she spat, her eyes blazing. "What about justice? What about the truth?"

Rafe felt the room closing in, the walls of Tannyhill a silent witness to the chaos. He wanted to shout, to scream that they couldn't keep living in fear, but the words caught in his throat. All he could do was watch as the battle between them unfolded, the echoes of the past and the shadows of the present colliding in a storm of emotion.

"Okay—fine," Ward said, his voice heavy with resignation. "I told them John B did it, and that Amelia can testify against him since she was there." He exhaled deeply, the weight of his words pressing down on him, knowing full well the consequences of such an accusation.
