AUTHOR'S POV
"So can I get a kiss here , as an award?" Ayaan said casually, as if it's no big deal, pointing at his cheek making Aishna freeze.
"A kiss? He has really helped me a lot, he has also made me feel comfortable with almost everything, he has been patient with me so far and was really nice last night. But a kiss? ." She thought
Ayaan is standing casually, arms crossed, smirking a little at Aishna, who is fidgeting her fingers.
"Here" Ayaan says teasingly leaning slightly forward, offering his cheek.
Aishna's cheeks turn a deep shade of pink. She looks everywhere but at him. Her hands tighten into nervous fists at her sides. Her heartbeat is a drum in her ears.
"I-I..." Aishna stammered
Ayaan chuckles lowly because he was just teasing her. He turns away slightly, shaking his head.
" It's okay, Biwi . I was just joking—
Before he can finish, Aishna, mustering all her courage, quickly leans in and presses a feather-light kiss on his cheek. The warmth of her lips lingers for a brief moment before she suddenly realizes what she's done.
Ayaan freezes, eyes widening in shock. He wasn't expecting her to actually do it. The teasing smirk vanishes, replaced by surprise.
Aishna, completely flustered, gasps and immediately turns on her heels, running out of the room before Ayaan can say anything .
Her heart racing faster than her feet, she runs down the hallway... only to bump straight into someone. She stumbles back, lifting her gaze hesitantly... and her heart nearly stops.
It's Ayaan's mother.
Aishna's face, already red, turns into the color of a ripe tomato. She lowers her gaze, nervously clutching the end of her saree .
"I-I'm s-sorry, Aunty...I.." she stammers
Ayaan's mother looks at her with a gentle smile, placing a warm hand on her head.
"Aishna beta , are you okay? Why are you so red? Do you have a fever or something?" She said worriedly.
"No no Aunty I am all fine.. I just— before Aishna can complete her sentence Ambika said
"Aunty? Beta, if I am Ayaan's mother that means I'm your mother too now. Call me Mom , Maa or anything but not with these words that makes me feel like a stranger."
Aishna's eyes widen in shock. The word echoes in her mind—Maa. She always thought that she would never get to say this word. She had never been allowed to call anyone that before, not even by her own mother.
Tears well up in her eyes before she can stop them. Her lips tremble as she whispers:
"M..Maa" the word sounded foreign but at the same time so familiar to her.
Ayaan's mother pulls her into a comforting embrace, stroking her hair gently.
"That's my good girl. You're my daughter now, Aishna. And always will be." She said
Aishna clutches onto her, her heart swelling with warmth she had never felt before. For the first time, she felt what a mother's love truly was.
"Are you really okay?" Ambika asked again looking at Aishna's watery eyes.
"I am , Maa, it's just that I was really missing my mother." Aishna said truly, she has been missing her mother since the day she was born, she always longed for a mother and now she has one.
