Megumi's pov:
I still remember the day I met Satomi.
I was six back then and it was the time of Christmas. This winter was different than past few ones. Tsumiki was putting the homemade cookies on the counter for Santa. I could've sighed few more times as if I didn't back then. She still believes in those things. Last year we both were shivering in cold because the heater broke and we didn't have enough money to fix that thing. We had limited savings and we were more hooked on to spend those on food rather than comfort. Plus we both had to pay for our school and education. Tsumiki dropped out because she thought it was a waste of money and I protested but that fell on deaf ears. Her logic was that I was the smarter one, so I should go there instead. In the meantime, zenins would come and take both of us away. She thought we'll at least live well and eat as much as rice we want but ... I didn't know it back then until I met that guy.
That year something strange happened, a white haired weirdo stopped me me from returning home and told me about my dad's motives and me being sold to the zenins. I knew something was fishy or else how we'd have so much money? Well, my father or should I say, ....sperm donor took the most of the money and left with Tsumiki's mother. And they both forgot about us. Me and Tsumiki were stuck here, alone with limited money to survive on.
But after the entry of that white haired weirdo our life changed drastically. We weren't not struggling financially anymore, Tsumiki went to school again, we could eat as much as rice we wanted, the heater was fixed and my old torn backpack was exchanged with a new expensive one. So, compared to the other years, that year we got to celebrate the Christmas.
It was snowing outside, the new sweater he(Satoru) left earlier was surprisingly warm. I nuzzled into the warmth and watched a star falling from the sky. Tsumiki who was done with decoration came and sat next to me, pointing at the shooting star, "Look Megumi! You should make a wish while it's still there!"
I rolled my eyes and looked away, as if it'll fix anything in our life. But, considering our condition earlier.... we're so much better now but then again, it's not for free. That guy told me that in return I'd go to jujutsu high when I'd turn eligible age for that field. I'd have to devote my youth into that in return of all these ...favours.
It's not like I enjoyed my life. I was just living and I couldn't left Tsumiki alone after everything. I was told about the potential danger and incoming death at young age - and I accepted everything. My life was never important, I never had any strong argue to live or breath ...until I saw her ....
Tsumiki closed her eyes and wished for something. Her mumblings weren't loud enough for my uninterested ears to hear. My eyes were fixed on that forest where blue, red colours were coming out. I saw the shooting star fading away before I spoke to myself, "I just wanna feel, alive...like Tsumiki."
And then a bunch of birds screamed and flew away from that forest on that small mountain next to Tokyo tower. The blue colour that was emitting slowly now somewhat blasted, few trees fell...and I jumped on my feet, leaning on the window and looking at the scene with wide eyes. Tsumiki's voice then startled me, "Don't lean to much! You'll fall!"
