(Third Person)

Malley had just dropped her son off at Leah's house. Whenever Derek is home, Malley hides Cane at Leah's from his brutal beatings. As long as Malley and Leah are alive, Cane will never get to know what a beating feels like. Leah only agrees to this because she knows what Derek is like. If Malley or Cane tried to escape, he'd hunt them down. Beat them to death, most likely. She and Malley had always been beaten by their father. They escaped him. But then Malley had fallen in love with the wrong man. We all know how abuse starts. Slowly, then they have you begging them for mercy. Then you give up hope and silently pray for the pain to stop. Leah just wishes she could do more for her little sister and nephew.

When Malley arrives home, she slowly, quietly shuts the door. Careful not to make a sound. That would make Derek even more mad. After shutting the door, she reluctantly turns around and gets on her knees. Derek told her it makes him feel superior. Like she gives a shit. She only wants to get back to her baby boy. Hours pass, yet she doesn't move a muscle. Finally, Derek comes downstairs. Smelling like alcohol. Though, the smell makes her dizzy, she doesn't dare show that. Derek may use that against her. Oh, how he loves doing that.

Derek smiles down at her with a sick, sinister smile. The one she knows all too well.

"well, it's about damn time, woman" He slurrs to her as he un-buckles his belt, wrapping the leather part around his hand, so he can git her with the metal.

"Yes, well it's not like I've been sitting here waiting for my beating for hours." She says sitting straight, showing her she will never be tamed. That's the only thing she can do that gets to Derek. It reminds her, he will never truly control her. She''s still hanging in there. She's hanging in there for Cane.

"BITCH, YOU WILL RESPECT ME! DO NOT SPEAK UNLESS SPOKEN TO! SHIRT OFF,NOW!" Derek shouts in her face, spit flying everywhere.

With her eyebrow raised, Malley slips her shirt off and speaks as if she's speaking to a person that's not all there. Which Derek is to be truthful "My bad. Well, since that wasn't me you were speaking to in the first place, I guess I can go." Although she stays in her position. Derek is so stupid you can't understand what he's trying to say most of the time.

That only got her a hard slash across the back. Not making a sound, though every whip she receives hurts like a mother, Malley thinks 'so it begins'.

Seven long gashes across her back, several shards of glass sticking out of her skin, a lovely design on her stomach, and a long cut from the right tip of her left eyebrow all the way through the brow and to her hairline, and a couple cigaret burns later, Malley is left unconscious in her house alone. She was only left alone though because Derek thought that he had finally beat her to death.

Coming to consciousness, Malley crawls to her purse and gets her phone out. She's struggling to see the blurry numbers. She just wants to let go. NO! she must stay alive. For Cane. For Leah.

9-1-1 is what she gets punched in before seeiing black closing in around her

"911, what is your emergency?" The operator asks in a professional tone

"H-elp. Beat. Losing consiousness. Malley Goodwin. Please. Help me" Is all the now franctic operator makes out before tracing the phonecall to Malley's house and sending a rescue squad.

Three days later Malley is awake. Leah had left Cane at home to come visit Malley, to bring her home today. Today, the world had gone to shit. One hour later, Malley and Leah were rushing home to get Cane and head to CDC along with people who weren't bitten, scratched, or turned. They arrived home only to find a note that Cane had been taken to find someplace safe to stay at with the neighbors who were told to babysit him while Leah was away. Malley went numb after reading the note. Fell to the ground. Leah, on the other hand.. Leah found a new anger rising deep within her chest.

'HOW DARE THEY!' she thought 'THEY KNEW NOT TO LET HIM LEAVE THIS HOUSE! THEY KNOW US! THEY KNOW HE'S ALL WE HAVE LEFT!' is all that was going through her head as she packed anything they needed to survive on their way to CDC. She packed weapons, food, water, clothes. Loaded it all up in her Jeep and stomped back inside. What she saw made her stop her rage fest. Malley was sunken onto the floor, with the note clutched in one hand, and a picture of Cane in the other. Tears rolled down Malley's face. The girl's face who took a beating without a word. Without a single tear. The girl who still mouthed off, knowing it would just get her an even worse punishment, just to show she was not weak. The woman who never cried or showed any weakness. The one who was now silently crying, but making her way towards Leah knowing they were going to find her son.
