IF you asked Charlotte-Alexandria Augusto how well the universe had treated her, she would go on a long ramble about how shitty her life has been. Freshly out of nursing school and freshly evicted from her apartment, she now sat on the curb of God knows where in Newark, New Jersey. She bit into her churro with a sigh, a few onlookers giving her pitying looks, likely assuming she had a tough day at work.

Why does everything have to be so hard? she thought, trying to savor the churro despite her sour mood. As she took a particularly big bite, a dollop of filling spilled onto her pink scrubs—her favorite scrubs. Great, just great, she thought sarcastically. Could this day get any worse?

She didn't even bother to wipe it off. Rising from the curb, she dusted off her butt and threw the remains of her sad churro away. What's the point? she mused. Even churros can't cheer me up anymore.

Her car was her current home, and as she settled back into the driver's seat, she couldn't help but feel the weight of her situation pressing down on her. "Living in my car, wearing stained scrubs, and eating pity churros. Living the dream, Charlotte." She muttered tying her hair in a clip.

Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from one of her nursing friends. It was a link to a website called "Roommates Finder."

Two dudes looking for a roommate.

My brother and I have an extra room in our apartment. We both travel often, and the apartment tends to get messy. Bottom line is we need essentially a live-in house sitter. We only have two plants. Respond ASAP.

Charlotte-Alexandria stared at the message for a moment. "Two dudes? Sounds sketchy. But what choice do I have?" She quickly typed out a response, hoping this might be the break she desperately needed. Please let this be the answer, she thought as she hit send.
