falling angels———
i remember vividly the crime i had committed a few weeks ago. it's so imbedded into my mind that it's driving me insane. the blood, their screams, their lives just gone.
and i was the reason for it.
i'd do anything to make the memory go away.
sitting on my bed, i stared at the stone wall across from me, braiding my hair. it helped me relax though it was a struggle due to my right wrist having a tracker on it, weighting my whole arm down.
the people of the ark didn't trust me, not after the stunt i pulled.
hell, even my own father doesn't.
i'm loosing my mind.
the people of the ark should have floated me already, put my suffering to an end.
i wished my father floated me already.
i knew he wanted me gone and out of his life. i knew he hated the judging stares he'd get from the other council members. i knew he hated being hated.
the daughter of marcus kane was a criminal.
i'm a criminal.
though, i believe what i did, was right. my father didn't want to believe it was true. that i had done something so awful i ended up in here.
it's been 97 years since a nuclear apocalypse killed everyone on earth, leaving radiation the only thing left. though, there were survivors. 12 nations turned into one, the ark, the place we all live on now.
the place we call home.
it is said that earth needs another 100 years to become survivable again. 4 more space-locked generations and a man could go home, back to the ground.
that's the dream.
reality at its finest.
the doors suddenly opened, and two guards walked in my room, "prisoner 285, face the wall," one ordered, causing me to stand. i didn't listen, "face the wall now," he said more sternly.
i sighed and faced the wall, i was in enough trouble already, "what's the meaning of this?" i wondered aloud, playing with the bandages on my hands.
"quiet, hold out your right arm," the other guard said, making me furrow my eyebrows and turn my head. they held a wristband, my stomach dropped and panic swam over me.
"no, no, it's not my time. i'm too young. i'm only sixteen," i pleaded but they didn't care, "hold out your arm."
"it's not my time! i'm only sixteen! look at my file!" i yelled in their face, fighting off the other man who grabbed a hold of me, the sound of a taser filled my ears, "stop fighting," he spoke so coldly, my eyes landing on the taser in his hand.
with my free hand, i punched the guy in the face, sending him to the ground. the other guard tased me with the taser, making me let out a yelp. i pushed him away with the strength i had and grabbed the knife that was hidden in my boot, stabbing right in the neck with it.
blood splattered onto my face.
he began gasping for air, his arms grabbing my arms. i pushed him off, pulling the knife from his neck and stabbed him once more in the chest, his arms falling.
dead.
i took off in a run, looking around the skybox and saw the other kids be dragged away and having the wristband. they were fighting back.
a door opened and two more guards appeared, heading right toward me. i walked backwards, begging for them to stop and crashed into something hard.
i jumped and tried to run but hands stopped me and turned me around, "lia, it's me."
"dad," i whimpered, throwing my arms around his body, "what's going on?"
"come on, let's go," one of the guards grabbed my arm, pulling me slightly back from my father.
"let her go," he ordered and the man listened, dropping my arm.
"you're going to kill us, aren't you? wipe away half the population and make more time for the rest of you," my father shook his head, "lia, you aren't being executed."
i frowned, "what?"
"you're being sent to the ground, all one hundred of you."
"i'm not going," i said to him, trying to get out of his strong hold, "it isn't safe. we'll die. you're sending us to our deaths."
"we're sending you down there to start a new life," my father pushed my hair from my eyes, rubbing my cheek, "this gives you a chance to change. a chance to make things right."
"you're sending me down there so i'm not your responsibility anymore," i spat in his face, tears rolling down my cheeks, "you're doing this as a punishment."
kane shook his head, his face falling, "i would never do that to you, delilah."
"bullshit, you hate-"
my words were cut off when something struck my back. the void around me blurred, black dots turning into black holes as my father lowered me to the ground, pressing his lips to my cheek one last time, "may we meet again."
my eyes fluttered and i went limp, darkness surrounding me now.
