The present
From outside her bedroom, Cameron's snoring could probably be heard by the entire neighborhood. It sounded like an angry lawnmower.
Inside, Cameron jolts awake, eyes wide as she glances at the clock."Oh no, I'm late!" she exclaims, scrambling out of bed—her blankets left in disarray.
She rushes around her room, quickly pulling on her soccer gear.
"Why did I sleep through my alarm? If I'm late, Dad's going to kill me!"
As she rushes downstairs, she runs into her mom, who's in the kitchen making breakfast.
"Good morning, sweetheart! Have some breakfast before you go," her mom says cheerfully.
"I can't! I'm running late for tryouts!" Cameron replies, grabbing her bag.
"Are you sure? You need something to eat," her mom insists.
"I really can't. I'm already going to be late!" Cameron urges.
Her mom looks concerned. "Well, I can drive you to the tryouts if you're in that much of a rush."
Cameron hesitates, glancing at the clock again. "Okay, yes, please drive me. Any delay will make me even later!"
Her mom nods and quickly grabs her keys. "Let's go then!"
They rush out the door, and Cameron's mom drives her to the soccer tryout location.
As minutes went by, Cameron lets out a big sigh and leans back into the car seat.
"I can't believe you're finally going to become a soccer player," her mom says excitedly.
Cameron sighs again, her tone uncertain. "I don't even know if I'm going to make the team."
Her mom glances over, concern in her eyes. "Oh, sweetie, don't say that. You're going to make it. Believe in yourself. You've been practicing so hard."
Cameron looks out the window, still not convinced. "I just feel like I'm not good enough."
Her mom gently slaps her lap. "Stop that. You've got this."
"Ow!" Cameron exclaims, rubbing her leg where her mom's hand landed.
"Just go out there and show them what you can do." Her mom chuckles. "You'll do great, I promise."A few minutes passed by, and they pull up to the parking lot near the vast green field where the tryouts are being held. Her mom turns to Cameron with a mix of encouragement and parental concern.
"Okay, make sure you behave out there," her mom says, trying to sound stern but with a loving tone.
Cameron rolls her eyes. "Mhm."
Her mom playfully slaps her on the thigh. "I wonder who you got such attitude from."
Cameron smirks. "From you."
Before her mom could respond with another slap, Cameron quickly opens the car door and jumps out.
"Thanks, Mom! I'll see you later." Cameron calls as she heads towards the field, where a sea of players in soccer jerseys are stretching and warming up.
Her mom waves and shouts, "Good luck!"
Cameron waves back without turning around and hurries into the midst of the bustling tryouts.
She then suddenly halted in her tracks as she noticed a group of guys ahead. An intense aura surrounded them, captivating her attention. Her gaze then fell onto their jerseys, and realization dawned on her - these must be the team her dad coaches. One by one, she took in their stunning features. They were more than just good-looking; they were like the human form of perfection, sculpted by something divine. From their chiseled jawlines to their defined muscles, they exuded power and a magnetic charm, turning heads wherever they went.
As Cameron continues on her run toward the field, she hears her dad's voice calling her name. She freezes like a deer in headlights, slowly turning around and lazily making her way toward him, hoping to delay time for his scolding.
"Hey, Dad," she says, spotting him sitting under the shade.
Her dad raises an eyebrow, clearly not fooled by her attempt. "Hurry up, Cameron. Or you'll receive something more worse than a scolding."
She swallows hard in horror.
Cameron arrives and notices her dad's serious expression. If not for the scorching sun, his demeanor alone is enough to make her freeze.
But then, her dad bursts into a playful grin and pulls her into a big hug. "I'm so glad you made it on time! Otherwise, everyone on the field would have to face punishment for your tardiness." She suddenly felt a murderous atmosphere creep onto her.
Cameron then breathes a sigh of relief, thinking to herself, 'Thank God I got here on time. Otherwise, today might have been my end.'
Her dad chuckles and ruffles her hair. "Go on now, and get ready!"
Cameron smiles, feeling a mix of relief and excitement, before turning and heading towards the field.
