(T.J's P.O.V.)
I groan in pain as I unwrapped the bandage that had been soaked in my blood, making it stick to my skin. I had to put a clean one on so it won't be infected by old blood. Meanwhile dad and Ellie peered through gaps of the newspapers that had been hung on the window panes. Looking out onto the street, watching people run around in search of... well, us. "They're not FEDRA, and they're not Fireflies" Ellie whispered, "so who are they?". "People" dad stated matter of factly. I didn't look at him, just kept on cleaning my wound "really? I thought they were magical liopleurodon who where going to show us the way" I answered sarcastically. Making myself laugh at my stupid joke, which Ellie didn't understand and getting a deep 'I'm so done with this kid' sigh from dad. With a shake of his head he returned to look out the window. "Looks like they're checkin' out apartment buildings first. But the'll be comin' through these places soon enough". I glance to dad who now takes a stand and walks away from the window. Giving Ellie the acces to look through the gap now. "There's a really tall building four blocks away" she announced. "Yeah, I saw it" Dad responds with a nod, knowing which building Ellie was talking about. "So that's the one?" Ellie questioned curiously, "as soon as we don't hear a truck, we move" Dad explained. I raise a hand in question "and how quick you think I'll be able to move?". Dad looks at me and with no emotion just states "as fast as you can go". I rolled my eyes "thanks for that define clarification". Dad and Ellie both take a seat now aswell. Waiting untill not trucks are heard. "Are you okay?" Ellie askes looking at my father, studying his bodylanguage. I glance up and see him fidgetting in his chair, before responding to Ellie with few words "I'm alright". Without looking at her, dad then reluctantly asked Ellie the same question. It was regarding the boy that had been killed by dad. The boy that Ellie had nearly killed. "Yeah" she answered with a nodd of her head. My father tries to lighten the situation by stating that a kid shouldn't gave to deel with shootin' or killing. How it was his fault because he wasn't aware of the approaching danger. A silence falls around us. Both of them adverting there gaze in either shame or sadness. Then Ellie breaks it. "It wasn't my first time" she admits regarding shootin' and killing. I shoot her a look and Ellie looks away. Then dad grabs his gun before kneeling down in front of Ellie. I smirk softly, realizing he was going to teach her how to properly shoot a gun. I enjoyed watching the interaction between the two. It seemed dad was beginning to grow a soft spot for Ellie.

Dad gives Ellie a leg up so she can crawl through a duct to get into a building. Normally dad would volunteer me for these things. But considering my state, he let Ellie have a go. Not long after she entered, Ellie had opened the dokr with a cheeky grin on her face "by now, Wyoming" dad responded. Ellie's grin falls "walked into that one". I walk through the two metal doors into a shipping and recieving garage. A fedex van is parked inside, doors still open as if someone was ready to load it. I shine my light around the area spotting more abandoned vans and boxes. "We'll make our way up, and come morning, I'll take a look at the city and find our way out" dad said moving towards the door to a stairway. I huff in displeasure "great. More stairs". Ellie looks at the sign that shows the amount of stairs "we are going up 42 flights?" She asked, almost laughing at the amount. "Forty-five" dad corrected her. I look up at the spiralling stairs that seemed endless "I'm not built for this" I state and look back down at dad and Ellie "and I mean that literally" Gesturing to my pocket that held my inhaler. "We'll go as far as you can make it" dad urged and ascended the stairs. After many, many stairs our pace slowed and loud breathing came from everyone. I grabbed my inhaler taking a pause for a moment. I shook it to ensure the medicine and propellant mix properly. Before placing it against my lips and taking a puff. Ellie stops before turning to me with a grin "come on, Asthma! A turtle moves faster than you". I weeze slighly as I look up at her with an angry stare "fuck you". "Come on" dad calls out, wanting me to get a move on. I take another huff of mt inhaler and continue up agony stairs, which I had graciously named them after the first flight. Already hating it. Eventually, finally, dad decided to take the next door we see. I moan as I basically stumble through the door before letting myself slide down the wall to sit on the ground. "Holy shit" Ellie speaks out of breath coming through the door, "thirty-three floors. That's good" she praised. "Well it's gotta be. Cause I ain't going further up" I state serious as I once again needed my medicine. Ellie walked forward, kicks my boot jokingly and extends a hand for me to take. "Just... just give me a minute" I beg, "get up, you lazy ass" she jokes again with a different nickname this time. I narrow my eyes at her but take her hand, pulling myself up. "Lazy ass" I scoff and pass her, "try climbing stairs with breathing problems next time yourself, you little shit" I finished also giving her a nickname. But turn to her with the same grin she had, obviously joking along with her. We walk through the hallway, untill we arrive by a door. Dad uses a fire-extinguisher to break the glass, so he can unlock the door. While Ellie and I take some couch cushions and laying them on the floor. Dad covers the broken door before sprinkling the broken glass in front of it. Both me and Ellie take a seat on the couch cushions. And I soon attend to my eound again. It had stopped bleeding rapidly for the time being. Now only bleeding slightly. "Joel?" Ellie asked my father. But he didn't react and kept on laying down the broken glass. "Joel?" She askes a bit louder, no reaction. "Joel!" Ellie then screamed. This time he did hear it and turned to look at Ellie with a questioning look "what?". "What are you doing?" Ellie asked curiously. "I don't want someone sneakin' up on us while we're sleepin'" he answered like it was obvious. Which, to be honest, it kind of was... well to me atleast. Ellie caught on aswell "oh, I get it. Crunch. Crunch. Cruch". She mimicked the sound of glass being stepped on. "Are you sure you're going to hear it?". "Of course, I'll hear it" he snapped, "that's rhe damn point". All of us lay down on our cushions ready to go to sleep. "The reason I askes whether you'd hear the glass or not is 'cause I've noticed you don't hear too well from your right side" Ellie said turning on her side to look at dad, "is it 'cause you were shot there?". "Probably more from shootin'" he replied. "Or old age" I mumble underneath my breath with a smirk.

"TJ!" A loud yelling Ellie woke me up. I groaned and my eyes shoot open. I look at Ellie. She is standing with her hands up. My eyes shift to a man who points a gun at her. Instantly I role onto my back. Ignoring the pain that shoots through my side where the wound reopened to bleed again. I am faced with a young boy with a painted mask on his face, pointing a gun at me. The boy puts his finger to his lips, telling me to be quiet.
