The Diggory family has always been a common family, long line of wizards and witches, all attended to Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The family has lived in a wooden house near the village of Ottery St Catchpole, England.
Clara and Amos were the proud parents of Cedric Diggory, a exemplary young man that lived up to all expectations. Cedric was sorted into the Hufflepuff house of Hogwarts six years ago. He was a prefect and captained the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. In his sixth year, Cedric was selected as the Hogwarts Triwizard Champion.
To the family's disgrace, Cedric Diggory died on the final task of the championship. He was murdered by the orders of Lord Voldemort, as Harry Potter recalled. This tragedy echoed the wizarding world, and branded a family into thousands of pitiful stares as trauma, shock and depression filled their lives forevermore.
What most of you do not know is that Cedric had a sister.
Amelia Diggory is the second daughter of Amos and Clara Diggory. She has never been called Amelia, though, too "old" for her liking. Sixteen years of age, Lia attends the same school where her brother was murdered in. Completely absorbed in sadness, her normal marks and usual enthusiasm are long gone as she sinks into a new term. Most of the students do feel like her, but they had not lost a loving brother, she thought egoistically.
Amelia has not always been a perfect student, she never failed but she had never stood out on anything like Cedric. She enjoyed music, piano it is, even though she has not been able to touch a single key since her late brother died. As you can see, Amelia has never felt like she made her parents proud at all, but she always thought Cedric was the one to take all credit, fairly. Maybe that is why she was sorted into the house that she did.
You are probably wondering which house Amelia was sorted in during her first year—she was, and still is, in Slytherin. That alone made her parents disappointed, she knew that.
Now, her parents, too focused on their own grieving, were not aware of her presence anymore, they felt the same even when she left for a new course. They did not matter that much to her anyway, that's what she thought.
But her brother. Oh, her brother has always been everything for Amelia. He was only two years older, they were very close. So his death did a mark on her for sure.
She didn't blame anyone, even if she did try and blame it on Harry Potter at the beginning, the boy that was with Cedric when he died and the only one that knew how he did. It is not that she disliked Potter, but he was in Gryffindor so his existence did not make any difference to her as long as he did not try to get her or her friends killed. They were in Slytherin, after all, and Slytherin students were always keen on their unfair judgment of the boy, and Amelia knew this. That is why she was not able to blame him. He is just a boy of her age with a tough life.
Amelia always wondered why she was sorted in Slytherin, she did not see herself as one of them. Every friend she had, she felt like she was pretending to be someone else so they liked her better. At least it has been like that for four years.
Now, after her brother passing away, she is not trying that hard anymore. She is now more quiet and has less real friends, she feels like everyone is treating her differently, much softer, now everyone pities her.
Everyone pities her.
Except one person.
And that is the one person she will eventually crawl to. Even if her brain is screaming at her to run in the opposite direction. Even if she tries to dislike him.
But we will get to that.
For now, we begin at the first day back in Hogwarts, the second of September of 1995.
This fanfiction follows the original plotline of the Harry Potter books. There might be some references to the films too, but it will remain as loyal as possible to the books.
