Rena- Six Years Ago, Age Eleven

Oregon.

1,963 miles away from Chicago. 1,963 miles away from Cole.

While in the car ride to Oregon, Cole's parting gift had wilted and died.

With her last momento gone, she was scared that their stretched tension would snap

With her last momento gone, she was scared that their stretched tension would snap. Their memories fade and grow gray.

It was an unnerving thought. And to have it with no comforting hand to hold, or understanding of how she felt, she became isolated in her confusion.

Middle school in a familiar area was tough enough. Going into uncharted waters alone was one thing, but not knowing a single person was another.

Cole~ Six Years Ago

A year since she's left, gone in a time lapse that swept her away in a continuous pull.

Living in the same area that he grew up in, it wasn't as hard for him to adjust to the missing person in his life. All his friends were still at the middle school, except for the one face he missed.

Rena- Three Years Ago, Age Fourteen

Last year of middle school. Friend-making came naturally to her. Now in the summer of her eighth grade, she had left with being beloved by teachers, and known by all her classmates.

Spring would come and she slowly forgot the meaning of the buttercups patches. Why she stopped to look at them with such longing and melancholy feelings start coursing through her body. She slowly forgot.

As time went on, the cord balancing over the chasm got increasingly stretched. The memories entwined to the string were starting to snap as they both forgot about each other. She held on one end, and he the other.

As each tried to pull the other over, the line couldn't take the force and its individual makings would snap. Getting thinner and thinner every year.

Cole~ Three Years Ago, Age Fourteen

His memory of her face started to slip. Was she smiley and happy, or was she quiet with smiles rare?
It was the first one, right? Or was it the latter? Or was it because he was there that she smiled more, or the opposite?

He had a new best friend now. Completley different from Rena. Where she was kind and gentle, heart-lightening and bubbly. The new friend was coarse and abrasive. He was in with the darker side of night. Could be cloaked in darkness and it would be considered normal.

Buttercups sprung up in their special area, but he only stopped and paused. Never went over and twirled it between his thumb and forefinger like he used to in sixth grade. He left and forgot to think.

His reality of her started to slip. Hard to grasp. He hadn't even realize he let go.

Highschool- Age 15, Freshmen Year

Rena walked into Oregon high school. She was an upheld, glorified high schooler, walking through the hallowed halls that everyone said were the best years of their lives. She found out quickly, that all of them had lied. In no way at all was it like High School Musical. In no way was it *magical*. Many people were jerks.

The drastic change between elementary school to middle was bad, but then this was worse. Everyone thought, "now we're in high school, it's our domain." Pffft- seniors ruled the school. Just shut up.

By now Rena had forgotten about Cole. And he, she. They remember the names, that they were best friends, but distance puts a strain on everything.

Highschool~ Age 16, Sophomore Year

By tenth grade Cole had ruled the school. (Amazingly, since he's not a senior) He got in over his head with 'influentials' nudging him in an irreversible choice.

The friend from before drove him into it, and now he watches from behind the scenes. Willing Cole to act this way and that, without him realizing it.

Everybody has secrets, Cole may have committed them but if he realizes he had is unknown. Masterminds always have a plan.

Summer- Age 16

She has decided to move back. Back to her home town. Back to her first life.

☆☆☆

The family, finally moved in starts to settle back in. The mother and father, after back and forth of unloading, unpacking, they retire to the bedroom for well deserved sleep. The eldest daughter stays awake lying in her bed, in a day dream of the year to come.

---

The twin brothers sleep deeply in their bunk-beds. Unaware that they settled back into the past.

Summer~ Age 16

Cole lies awake in bed, two months into summer. August starts at midnight. Staring up at the ceiling, he doesn't realize the going ons in his surrounding as they changed and flipped all throughout the day.

At midnight it all changes.

They both lay, staring at the ceiling. Her tossing and turning ready to sleep, her tired eyes droop, but sleep refuses to take over as past memories flip through her vision.

He lies, arms raised above his head, watching the shadows of the tree outside his window dance on the roof. Sway in the wind. Bringing in the change, silent through the night. Gracing over the houses, entwined into the air. Altering the coming future.

They both drift off to sleep, not realizing they are almost in arms' distance away from the other.

A/N: The house in the picture above is the house they moved back into.
