Shane was pointing his gun at Rick, breathing heavily. The man's eyes were filled with rage. Shane grunted and put the gun down. The man looked to his right, looking Harper right in the eyes. "Jesus," she muttered.
Shane looked down and then back up at her with a laugh. "I know," Shane said. "Gonna start wearing reflective vest out here. Seriously." Harper was terrified, "Right." she said. Shane looked over at her, knowing she knew what he was thinking. But, if he didn't say it aloud, it wasn't true. Right?
"Come on, man." Shane yelled at Rick who looked back at him, "Come on Harper, let's go. Nothing out here." He said before walking away. Harper stood still for a minute before following the men. Shane already had it out for her, now that she saw this, what would he do?
The three of them approached the camp. Shane walked into the middle of the group and spoke, "I've been, uh... I've been thinking about Rick's plan." Harper walked over and stood between Glenn, Ella, and Daryl, "Now look, there are no-there are no guarantees, either way. I'll be the first to admit that." Harper scoffed lightly. "I've known this man a long time. I trust his instincts. I saw the most important thing here is we need to stay together."
Everyone was silent, waiting for him to continue, "So those of you who agree, we leave first thing in the morning. Okay?" Everyone nodded and went their separate ways. Ella looked up at Harper, "Were leaving?" Harper ran her hand over her sister head, "Yeah. It's not safe here anymore." Ella nodded, seeming to understand. "C'mon, let's go pack and get some sleep." Harper and Ella went to their tent and did just that.
"Harper." Rick said walking up to the girl who was taking her tent down. "There's no room in the RV. You and Ella can either go with Shane or Dary-" "Daryl. We will go with him." Harper interrupted him. She did not want to be stuck with Shane for who knows how long.
"Okay." Rick said nodding. "Hi Ella. How are you doing?" Ella-who was sat on the ground- looked up at him. "Hi Rick, I'm doing okay." She said with a smile. Rick returned it and turned to leave. Harper took the last bit down and packed it away. "Give me a hand with these bags?" Harper asked her sister.
Ella nodded, taking her and her sister bookbags, while Harper had the tent. They both walked over to Daryl. "Not enough room in the RV, we are bunking with you." Harper said as she tossed the tent into the back, near the motorcycle that sat there. Daryl huffed. Harper ignored it and helped Ella put the bags in the front. After, they all made their way to the rest of the group, "Everybody listen up," Shane said as Daryl came and stood near the sisters.
"Those of you with C.B.s' were gonna be on channel 40. Let's keep the chatter down, okay? Now you got a problem, don't have a C.B., can't get a signal or anything at all, you're gonna hit the horn one time. That'll stop the caravan. Any questions?"
Morales looked at everyone and spoke up, We're uh... we're not going. We have family in Birmingham. We want to be with our people." Everyone was silent. Shane looked at them, "You go on your own, you won't have anyone to watch your back." "We'll take the chance. I got to do what's best for my family." Harper nodded, understanding completely.
"You sure?" Rick asked. Morales looked at his wife, "We talked about it. We're sure." Rick looked at him with understatement, "Alright." Rick bent down to the bag of guns in front of him, pulled one out, and handed it to the man along with a half-full box of ammo.
Lori hopped off the car and went to hug the wife, "Thank you all... for everything." Ella looked up at her sister. Harper nodded, telling her she can say goodbye. The little girl went up to hug her friends, waved goodbye, and went into the truck.
