I stared out the window as we approached the port, the two-hour car ride as chaotic as I had anticipated. Nafi and Arsh had spent the entire journey bickering over who possessed a more refined sense of humour, while Armaan sat quietly in the corner, leaving me to mediate their playful squabbles.

As we stepped out, a gentle breeze brushed against me, refreshing after the stifling confines of the vehicle. The salty air invigorated my senses.

I turned to see Nafi, her camera poised, capturing candid shots of me. "You look stunning in this light, and the backdrop is simply breathtaking!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Really? Let me take a peek!" I leaned in, curiosity piqued by her enthusiasm.

"I am absolutely, positively ready for this vacation!" Nafi declared, her exuberance infectious, radiating a warmth that lifted my spirits.

"Just what I was about to say," I replied, joining the others as we boarded the enormous cruise ship. The sight was nothing short of mesmerizing; the vessel gleamed under the sun, its towering structure promising both adventure and relaxation.

Once we reached our room, Aliza handed us the keys with a bright smile. "Here are your keys! If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to knock on my door," she said, her warmth inviting.

I winked at her playfully. "No need for that! You all enjoy your time together," I teased, dragging Nafi inside, leaving Jijju and Aliza to their own plans.

"Finally, a bed!" Nafi exclaimed, flopping onto the mattress and cocooning herself in the quilt, her face lighting up in bliss.

"Move aside, I'm tired too!" I said, clambering onto the bed beside her. Just as I was about to close my eyes, the doorbell rang insistently.

"Zaina, go open the door," Nafi mumbled from beneath the layers of fabric.

"No way! You get it!" I retorted, a playful smirk on my lips.

"Fine!" she huffed, rolling off the bed with exaggerated reluctance.

I was on the verge of drifting off again when another knock reverberated through the room.

"Zaina?" Aliza called, her voice bright and cheerful.

"Yeah?" I replied, still in a state of semi-consciousness.

"Get your lazy butt off the bed, pray, and get ready! We're heading to the restaurant!"

"Wait a minute, didn't we just leave the port? Where in the vast ocean will we find a restaurant?" I asked, still somewhat dazed. I'm not dumb—just sleep-deprived! But can you blame me for wanting some rest...

"Third floor! Don't be late, you two," Aliza said, her voice fading as she disappeared down the hallway.

"No promises!" I shouted back, and soon Nafi and I erupted into a fit of giggles, our laughter echoing through the room.

I hastily donned a white skirt paired with a crocheted sage green top, the fabric flowing gracefully as I moved. As I stepped into the elevator, I paused to snap a few pictures—after feeling like a bedraggled rat for weeks, I finally felt like my vibrant self again. I couldn't let this opportunity pass by me.

"Nafi, wait up!" I called

"No way am I getting scolded because you made me late!" she replied, halting briefly to cross her arms in mock annoyance.

"Yallah habibti, let's go!" I panted as I caught up to her, our laughter blending into the lively atmosphere around us.

"Finally," she said, rolling her eyes, only to speed off again, her energy boundless.

***

"A minute late? Not bad, you two!" Nani said, her voice as sweet as honey as she spotted us. I was enveloped in her warmth, the familiar scent of jasmine wrapping around me like a comforting blanket.

"Nani!" I exclaimed, surprise flooding through me. "I had no idea you were coming!"

"Surprise!!!" she announced, her face lighting up as she did a little jazz hands dance, her joy contagious.

"Nani, no hug for me? I'm also your beti!" Nafi pouted, interrupting the heartwarming moment.

"Chup bakwaz, ye meri nani hai!" I joked, laughter bubbling forth as Nafi feigned irritation.

"Tum dono chup raho. I have enough love and food for both of you," she said, pinching my cheeks lightly before pulling Nafi into a side hug. The sheer warmth radiating from her made my heart swell.

Nani was everything to me—a guiding star in my life. She had always been there, offering unwavering support, even helping me with my college tuition. With her love and compassion, I became a doctor, fulfilling my dreams. I couldn't fathom my life without her—Alhamdulillah, she was by my side.

"Aliza, have you seen my mum?" I asked, turning toward her as she indulged in a lavish seafood platter.

"Yeah, she's over at that table," Aliza said, pointing to a distant corner where my mom and several aunties were engaged in conversation, their laughter ringing through the air.

"So selfish! You started eating without me," I feigned a pout as I strolled over, my stomach grumbling at the sight of delectable dishes.

"Being a bride is exhausting, okay?" Aliza reasoned with a cheeky smirk, playfully rolling her eyes.

"Fine, I can't imagine myself being one, but scoot over! I'm stealing your platter—sorry, not sorry!" I declared, plopping down between Nafi and Aliza with a triumphant grin.

The food was a culinary delight—everything from spicy chicken tikka to creamy biryani danced on my taste buds. I savoured each bite, even though I wasn't particularly fond of fish. Nafi filled me in on all the latest gossip, her voice bubbling with excitement. I was astonished to learn that Zain, Arsh, and Nafi were neighbours; the world felt so small sometimes. Zain had recently moved into a sprawling villa, affording him and his wife the privacy they craved. While I felt a twinge of disappointment for my lack of a romantic partner, I couldn't help but feel happiness for them.

As the evening wore on, the laughter and chatter enveloped us. Yet, a strange feeling lingered in the back of my mind—like someone was watching me. I dismissed it as paranoia, a trick of my overactive imagination. It was probably nothing... right?

*Was there someone watching her yes one pair of eyes that shied away every time one who had no intention to cause her to worry....and another pair of eyes that had ruthlessness and a craving for blood in them, a stare that felt like your insides were being carved with his initials любовное убийство
