"Our hearts are wild creatures; that's why our ribs are cages."
"Come on, people! After tomorrow, it's back to our stressful lives. Let's enjoy the last few days we have on this vacation, please!" Aliza begged, her voice cutting through the sleepy haze that still lingered in the room.
"Fam, I've given you a break from my spontaneous plans for six whole days and let you relax. Now come on, let's have some fun!" She crossed her arms, pouting like a pro.
"Ha, Beti, you're right. All of you get up; we only have two days left to be together!" Nani chimed in, gently nudging my head, which was resting on her lap aside. She stood up, stretching.
"Haseena, uto! I raised you to be spontaneous!" Nani scolded my mother, who was blissfully relaxed in the massage chair, her eyes still closed. "You can't waste this time!"
"Okay, okay, Ma, I'm up," my mother replied, rolling her eyes but smiling.
Nafi yawned, pulling the blanket over her head. "Why are you all so loud? I was having a lovely dream."
"Dream about a tropical paradise with no responsibilities?" Preena Aunty teased from the corner of the room, adjusting her hair in the mirror. "Get ready, Nafi! We're going to make memories today, not sleep through it!"
As the ladies busied themselves, the playful bickering over outfit choices heated up.
"I need your expert opinions! Should I wear the floral green dress or the bright yellow one?" Aliza held both dresses up, spinning in a circle.
"The floral! It will bring out your beautiful skin tone," I said approvingly. "Plus, it will look lovely against the backdrop of the ocean!"
"Ugh, but the yellow one is so much more fun! It screams vacation!" Nafi protested, glancing at her mom for backup.
"Aliza, we want to look sophisticated, not like a traffic cone," Ma chimed in from her massage chair, finally sitting up. "Stick with the floral; it's timeless."
"Exactly!" Preena Aunty added, peeking over her makeup brush. Making Nafi roll her eyes offended that her mom didn't take her side.
"Floral it is; I'll wear bright accessories." Aliza decided "What about you, Zaina? Are you wearing that boring sundress?"
I smirked as I slipped into a bright blue sundress. "Boring? This dress has character! Besides, I'm going for elegance. Unlike some people," I shot a teasing glance at Nafi, who was still in her pajamas.
Nafi finally emerged from under her blanket, wearing a tank top and shorts. "Excuse me, but comfort is key! I don't know why you all want to dress up. We're going to the beach, not a fashion show!"
"Comfort doesn't mean looking like you just rolled out of bed," Preena Aunty teased, raising an eyebrow.
As the friendly chaos continued, laughter filled the room, and the earlier drowsiness was forgotten.
