"Don't look up! Okay?", said Bella. "Keep your eyes on the ground and no matter what happens or you both listen to any type of voices; you will not see or go in that or any direction".
Both kids looked at their mommy and nodded their heads.
"Do you both get that?", cried Bella unpleasantly thumping the seat while her fingers kept an unmannered movement. "Say it out loud!".
"Mommy!", both kids looked at their mother with eyes full of water while nodding their heads. Kids were aware of things going outside but seeing their mother upset and yelling at them for the first time, made them feel bad since they were doing things all the way their mother was instructing. Bella didn't want to take any chance that could hurt her kids in any way and since this was the biggest battle for her to find a safe place but also a responsibility to her.
"It's okay, we... we will be all right! Just... just follow me and we will be safe, " Bella cried, squeezing her children's hands into her.
Bella pulled over her children and hugged them tightly, she could feel the rapid pace of her daughter's heart as it synchronized with her heartbeat. Bella knew exactly that the minute they got out of the car, she had to take her children to a safe place, no matter what happened. The window and glasses of the car were covered, so it was a more difficult task as they needed to find the way when they'd be out.
"Are you both ready?" asked Bella calmly. They both nodded and squeezed their hand in their lap.
"Don't worry kids, we are safe in these suits until and unless you both don't look up and keep your heads down, okay?" Bella said.
"Okay! On count three, I'll open the car door and we will rush to any building we see that looks fine. Don't worry. I'll tell", said Bella in a hurried voice. "Okay? one, two, three. Go!"
They set their foot on the ground and saw that the city was no longer a city but a cemetery. The city was more like a place of the dead. Time had stopped as if it had refused to continue. No birds, no people, and it all seemed as if God had also lost the battle with the demon. The silence was loud and the smell of dead ones had taken the place of fragrance.
Bella made a fast pace through dead bodies while making long strides. Her hands were tightly interlocked with her children's soft and tiny fingers. Bella wasn't sure if she would be able to find others and the building but she was sure that there was one where only people left on Earth were staying. And since, her last talk with her friend, Arthur, a scientist like herself informed her about a fine big building that they were staying in before the connections were cut and could tell her about the exact location.
Bella was too much involved with her brain's thoughts while at the same time, the smell coming even through her suit, and the overthinking, it all made her mind-boggling. The more she walked away from the car, the more she was worried as now she wasn't even able to walk but only her legs as if they were pushing themselves until they found a safe place. Every breath she took made her feel more near to death and it relieved her more and more.
"Mom!", cried the boy. "Where is Girl".
Bella looked around astonished and her heart again pounded in her chest like a drumbeat, each thump echoing the urgency to find her.
"Shit! Boy, you go ahead to that building and ask for help, if you feel someone inside, then just say my name, they know me, and make them open the door. Understood? Go!"
The boy rushed toward the building and Bella to find Girl. She looked around at every dead body, though her brain was taking a while to process and differentiate her daughter and to recognize her. She finally saw this white, thick, tight suit and a helmet on the top. Bella quickly ran toward it.
"Girl!", cried Bella. "Come on baby, let's go!". But she was not conscious; rather, she fainted, Bella guessed. She picked her up and rushed towards the building. Bella was now very terrified when she saw her son still outside of the building and crying.
"Open the door" Bella yelled. "Dr Arthur, it's me, Bella, can you hear me, please open the door. I'm with my kids, they are so small and are scared too. I know. I know you people are scared too but believe me. I am all right and the kids are too. I'm not lying. Dr Arthur, can you listen to me". Bella cried and cried. 'Everything was vain', Bella mumbled. Her head was reclined on the door. Her body weakened and she was no longer standing on her legs but completely dropped herself on the door. But then suddenly she falls down on the floor inside. An old woman pulled the boy's hands inside and slammed the door quickly.
