Yn and Peter were hanging out at school, meeting up by his locker after a long day of classes. The bustling hallway was filled with students chatting, lockers slamming, and the distant sound of the school bell echoing off the walls. Yn opened her locker, carefully placing her textbooks inside while her best friend, Peter rummaged through his backpack, pulling out a crumpled notebook and a few stray pens.

"So, Peter," Yn said, trying to keep her tone light and casual as she closed her locker, "do you want to hang out later? Maybe we could catch that new movie everyone's talking about. I heard it's supposed to be really good."

Peter looked up, his face betraying a hint of regret. "I can't tonight, Yn. I'm heading over to MJ's place to help her with her yard. She said that she's got a lot to do and could use an extra pair of hands."

Yn's heart sank a little, and she couldn't quite mask the twinge of jealousy that slipped into her voice. "Oh, it's cool. You two seem to be spending quite a bit of time together lately."

Peter noticed the subtle shift in her tone but chose to steer the conversation in a different direction. "Yeah, it's a big project. But once we're done, maybe you could come over and hang out, too."

Yn forced a smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "That sounds nice of you. I'm sure MJ will appreciate the help."

As the conversation lulled, Yn's phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out and glanced at the screen, letting out a small, resigned sigh. "Looks like my dad's here to pick me up," she said, her tone carrying a mix of annoyance and relief. "Guess I'll start to head out."

Peter gave her a sympathetic look as they began walking down the main hall toward the entrance. The afternoon sun cast long shadows on the pavement, making the world outside look warm and inviting.

"I guess that means our plans for the weekend might have to be put on hold," Peter said, his voice laced with disappointment.

Yn nodded, her expression softening as she tried to offer reassurance. "Yeah, but we can still figure something out. Maybe we could hit up that new café downtown or catch a movie next week?"
