~*First Person*~

I curled up in bed, nestling deeper into the warm blankets as I pressed my phone to my ear, listening to the steady dial tone. Outside, the city was quiet, the streetlights casting a soft, orange glow through the curtains. It was one of those nights where the world felt perfectly still, except for the faint hum of traffic in the distance. I checked the clock on my nightstand—11:47 PM.

Peter was late, again.

A soft sigh slipped from my lips, the anticipation in my chest giving way to the familiar pang of frustration. He was always running on his own time.

My eyes drifted to the photo of us on my nightstand, the one where Peter had insisted on holding a giant stuffed bear he'd won for me at the carnival. I smiled at the memory—he'd been so proud of that bear, even though I knew he had no idea what he was doing at that game booth. He was grinning in the picture, that boyish smile I loved so much, the one that always made everything feel okay.

Just as I was about to hang up and try to sleep, the call connected.

"Hey, Yn. Sorry, I'm late," Peter's voice crackled through the line, slightly breathless and tinged with exhaustion. The sound of wind rushing by was unmistakable, but I just smiled to myself. He was probably out on one of his late-night bike rides, something he'd taken up recently to clear his head.

The tension I'd been holding onto all evening eased immediately at the sound of his voice. "It's okay, Pete," I replied softly, unable to keep a small smile from creeping onto my face. The knot in my chest loosened, my frustration melting away. "I was starting to think you forgot about me or something."

"Forget about you? Never," he said, his tone playful, with that signature charm that always made my heart flutter.

On his end, the bustle of the city was ever-present—the distant honking of horns, the occasional shout from a passerby, the hum of life at this late hour. Peter was always in motion, and it was one of the things I loved about him.
