As the day bled into night, a fierce orange glow overtaking the previously blue sky, the often calm aura in the Powell household turned frantic. With Theodore having a night off from work, Declan and Cristina, rare to come to any form of agreement ever, took matters into their own hands to plan some sort of evening that would be well remembered by them all when school once more started up after a long summer break filled with much laughter and, of course, excruciating heat.

What they didn't account for, however, was something that many others in their surroundings could have predicted from miles away. In the middle of all the excitement, they failed to realize how hard it would be for them to work together for once and not strive after each other's downfall. Arguments ensued, some that baffled Theodore with the lack of means behind them, and some that drove him to have to fight the urge to write them both into the closest mental asylum for an indefinite amount of time.

To make matters worse, Cristina had thought it to be a great idea to invite her friends over also as, according to her, they were family at this point. Declan violently disagreed despite the fact that they were his friends too. He, alongside his older brother, found it incredibly stupid to think that Demetri Alexopoulos of all people would make matters easier, especially since he had an annoying habit of commenting and complaining about everything you could think of.

He had once gotten himself practically thrown out of the Powell house when he thought it the time and place to voice his opinion on the density of the couch cushions he was seated upon. And it took much convincing and bribing as well as assurance that it would never happen again from Cristina to get him to ever set foot through the doorway again. Before that, he had begrudgingly waited outside by the mailbox seeing as it was Cristina who drove him to school in the mornings. And Declan made sure to rub salt in his exaggerated wounds by grinning each time he came over to purposefully remind him he could, and would, drag him out the door by the ear.

Only when Declan began making so-called "ridiculous" claims about a so-called crush Cristina supposedly had on Eli Moskowitz - the other friend she invited - did she agree to uninvite them, both, realizing that she had maybe jumped the gun on that one and should have asked beforehand. While calling to cancel on her friends, she was muttering about how absurd it was for Declan to even think she could have the teeny tiniest crush on her best friend.

Declan, ever the humble and kind being, scoffed loudly and declared in the presence of his brother - should Cristina decide to try and detach his limbs from his body - that the feelings she harbored for Eli were far beyond a simple crush. No, Declan phrased it as though she was in love with him, her very being only existing for his pleasure, ready to comply with his every beck and call.

And that, of course, drove Cristina to chase him around the house with the very spatula she'd been using to flip the pancakes they mutually decided to make for dinner seeing as neither Cristina nor Declan had any idea how to cook. Theodore wasn't much help either as he had gotten himself banned from the kitchen until further notice since he accidentally set fire to a piece of toast he'd been roasting in the toaster just a few weeks ago.
