Looking at her friend's beat-up face, Cristina felt unbelievably guilty. Not only because he got beaten to a pulp by Kyler and his goons, but because Demetri was attempting to tell him that he was better off without his one true passion. Karate. And it was her fault for dragging him to the library with her.

"So, that's it? No more karate?" Demetri asked as they sat in the library studying. As usual, Declan was asleep and couldn't be bothered to read anything that would help him with his upcoming tests.

Obviously disappointed, Miguel sighed. "I guess so."

"It's probably for the best," Demetri said, ignoring Cristina when she hit his shoulder for being so insensitive about the topic. "It was starting to boost your confidence."

That made Miguel frown, wondering how on earth having boosted confidence was a negative thing. And judging by the looks of confusion on Cristina and Eli's faces also, it was obvious they didn't get it either.

"Isn't that a good thing?" Miguel questioned and looked up from his books.

"No!" Demetri instantly exclaimed. "What has confidence ever gotten anybody except for a black eye and their backpack thrown in the trash?" it was clear his question was rhetorical, but Declan still found the need to reply.

He raised his hand and peered at them. "It got me a dance with a pretty girl yesterday."

"Oh shut up, Declan," Demetri grumbled back.

Eli found the courage to speak his mind soon after. It always helped when Demetri had been knocked down a peg.

"Well, I thought it was pretty cool how you stood up to Kyler," he said quietly. Cristina grabbed his hand and smiled at him, something he was quick to reciprocate. And Cristina's cheek then, of course, flushed bright red.

Demetri strongly disagreed and made sure to make it known. "Are you insane?!" had the librarian been around, he would've been thrown out of the library because of the volume of his voice. "Let me ask you. What is the best super anyone could have?"

"Super strength," Miguel said without hesitation.

Cristina shrugged. "Probably, telekinesis."

"Teleportation?" Declan suggested, not all that interested in the topic.

Demetri shook his head. "Wrong, wrong, not half bad, actually." he pointed at them in order, his eyebrows raised once he reached Declan. "Invisibility. A distant second would be super speed to run away fast."

"I don't know." Declan voiced his skepticism. "With teleportation, you could go wherever you want, whenever you want. There's no need for running."

With furrowed brows, Demetri nodded. "I see your point. But I still think invisibility is better. Then you can hide from anyone."

To the group's horror, Kyler and his friend Brucks came up to their table to mess with them, having overheard their conversation. Cristina didn't hesitate to begin packing up her and Eli's things, hoping to get them out of there before anything could start.
