Oh gosh, the patient was bleeding so profusely.

There was no senior surgeon available at this hour on top of that.

I needed to get this done without a senior surgeon anyways or the patient dies of blood loss.

He was quickly placed on the operating table in the OT and I started to review his vitals.

Pulse was very low

Heart rate was bad

Ecg was almost flat

Blood pressure was extremely low

And bleeding was not stopping on its own

I quickly decided to hook him up on the IV and start the stiches.

Hopefully there's no internal bleeding because we had no time for an MRI.

The guy sitting outside was his twin as I noted already, so getting a blood donor wasn't a problem.

Quickly but carefully I finished stitching the wound on his forehead and then ran to the vistor's area to get his brother's blood.

Goodness, I felt so bad for his brother.

His pajamas were covered in blood and he just sat there shell shocked.

I could understand what he felt. When you see your loved one in such a condition, it alters your brain chemistry.

When I stopped him from entering the OT of the emergency ward, he just kept staring at me as if looking right through me while also staring at the depths of my very soul.

This was the worst part of being a surgeon.

I hated seeing families breaking and people obliterating.

I despised being the news bearer of people's misfortune.

People dying always left behind a weeping and mourning families.

I soon found his brother sitting at the same spot I left him before going into the OT.

Walking towards him I said "Sir, your brother has lost a significant amount of blood and we'll need you to donate your blood to him."
