Rolling With The Punches

My dad had called us when Harvey answered breathlessly.
"Its for you." He said as I cleaned the kitchen, "Nope. Not till I get some."
I rolled my eyes, he always did this after coming back from his run. I kissed him and took the phone from him when it fell out of my hands to the kitchens floor.
"Shit!" I muttered and got it, "H-Hello? Hello? Helloo?"
I shooed Harvey off to go clean himself up.
"Hey kittens!"
"Dad?" I say, "Dad!"
"Who was that overconfident ass on the line before you answered?"
"Dad!" I exclaimed, "That was Harvey, my husband the man that gave your daughter his last name. And he's not an ass dad, he just comes off as one." I say when Harvey was smiling at me.
"You married that guy?"
"Dad.." I whined, "He's not what you think. I am here and your not. It was my choice and I made it, live with it everyday. MKay?" I say getting sassy.
"Yes I know. You sound like you've changed what has he done to my baby girl?"
"Nothing daddy. I need to go. I have to work." I lied.
"Okay Kittens. Love you too."
"Yeah. And I'll tell Harvey you
said hi." I said.
"You do that Kittens, by the way I'm on my way to see my baby girl. Be ready, the smartass better be too."
"Dad!!!!No!" I whined when we hung up. I sighed pressing my hands to my face, "God no..."
"Am I really that much of a smartass?" Harvey asked trying to help.
"Harvey.." I said still distracted, "Jesus no you're just the right amount sass and swagger plus ass."
Harvey chuckled smiling when I half grinned. I hated my father because he had nothing to with me till now.
'He has no right, so don't give him the chance to bitch.' I thought smiling.
"Harvey, get ready to put on your work charm for my family." I say when he smiled.
"I will be ready. When are they coming?" He asked me.
"Not they. A he. My dad whom thinks your an overconfident asshole." It slipped out. Damn it!
"Okay. The perfect charm right?" He asked me.
"Yeah. Don't change anything except bring the perfection trait home." I say.
"Its on the agenda. Done." He says smiling, "Next on the list is for you to get dressed and for us to go dancing Mrs. Specter."
I smiled chuckling. "Okay daddy.." I teased laughing, "I'm so not ready for my dad to come over."
Harvey put his hands in his power suits jacket pockets.
"Don't worry, I'll be there with you." Harvey said being a bit out of character when he would usually made a smart remark about kicking someone's ass.
"You've softened up a bit ol' boy. What happened to my strong stoic large egoed smartass husband?" I said standing in the doorway in a black dress with matching wedges and make-up highlighting my features.
"Just practicing before your dad gets here." He said when I laughed.
"No don't do that yet. I'd rather get all the wittyness out first before we practice being nice." I say grinning.
"Oh." He said smiling, "You like that part of me huh?"
"Yeah. Its a huge turn on, for me at least." I say as his hand rested on the open back of my LBD styled cocktail dress while we went to call a cab outside.
"Well in response to your statement earlier about missing your dad, I'm so ready to kick his ass." Harvey smarted off when he opened the cab door for me, "Pretty Ladies First."
"Thank you." I say sliding in first then Harvey was next.
