MADISON
I picked up the last two boxes and placed them in the back of my car. James, my now ex-husband, watched me as I shut the boot and got into the front seat. He waved and rolled my eyes before my best friend started the car and drove off.
This is the last time I'll see my old house, and probably the last I'll ever see him again. James and I filed for a divorce after I caught him cheating with his colleague.
I had a feeling something was going on between them from the start, and honestly, I was not as upset as I thought I would be when I found out it was true. The truth was, I had already started losing feelings for James when he failed to show any love or attention to me. He was barely at home. However, it was a shame I had wasted two years together with him.
My mother had told me not to be with him and I insisted that I loved him. That was when I was 21 and although I was quite young, I was sure that I had found true love. I was the type to get attached very quickly.
"You okay, Mads?" Isla asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay. This is quite scary though."
She hums. "I know, but you know what? I am sure that you will do just fine. And now you can live one of those 'aesthetic it girl lifestyles' that you see on TikTok." I laugh.
"And, you get to live by yourself, in a fancy chic apartment. That is so cute! I'm coming over for a sleepover soon." she giggles to herself, definitely planning it in her head already.
My new apartment was closer to my best friend, and only a 15-minute drive from my parent's house. I had access to free groceries whenever I needed them! But, I probably needed to wait a few weeks before I pulled that stunt.
----
We arrived at my new apartment, and luckily I was on the first floor, so it wasn't too hard to bring all my stuff inside. I insisted to the landlord that I had to be on the first floor in case of a fire. Just so that I could be one of the first ones out. I made quite a lot of money so I was able to afford a big apartment with a beautiful view.
The outside of the building looked amazing and modern, hinting at it being expensive. After unlocking the door, I walked into the combined living room and kitchen. It was beautiful, and I had it already refurbished. All of the furniture was already set, thanks to my Dad who helped me set up a week before I moved in.
The living room was adorned with cozy, warm white sofas that were adorned with soft blankets and vibrant cushions. Delicate fairy lights adorned the room, casting a warm glow, while petite plants were carefully placed on the tables and near the expansive windows, adding to the inviting atmosphere. The room also had a spacious TV and a charming carpet, adding to its cozy ambiance.
The kitchen was also recently completed, giving off a modern look with its white paint, matching the theme of my whole house.
As I went up the stairs passing my put-together bathroom, I entered my bedroom with a sigh of contentment. To me, it was the most delightful room altogether, exuding a charming and pleasing ambiance. The centerpiece of the room was the roomy walk-in closet and the inviting large bed. Beside the bed, my vanity with a shiny mirror adorned with elegant lights waited for my personal touches in setting up my makeup collection. A lovely desk with a chair shaped like a shell was neatly tucked in, and it was all below my large windows that offered a picturesque view of the skyscrapers during the day and a beautiful night sky in the evening.
I could hear Isla running up the stairs squealing and she hugged me from behind. "Maddie! This is so cute! I should just leave Jason to come live with you!" I smile and take her downstairs to help me with setting up my bits and bobs around the apartment. It took us under two hours, but by now it was around 6 pm so Isla and I decided to order food. Jason, Isla's boyfriend who was also her high school sweetheart, was on his way to pick her up so we ordered for him too. They were getting married soon and she had asked me to be her bridesmaid a few months back.
"Your house honestly looks like a fairy's house! It's adorable." Isla said.
I nod and laugh, agreeing with her. "It does...I just need to buy some groceries and it will be finished."
10 minutes later, I started thinking about my poor cat, who I wasn't able to bring with me because of the long drive. My dad had taken her to look after her when he was decorating my new place, and I was picking her up tomorrow. "I miss Pineapple!" I said with a pout. She's probably so upset, wondering where I am.
"Girl, I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't even know you're gone. Your mum and dad spoil her rotten. You wouldn't even think she was a cat by the way you all adore her." We both laugh thinking about how much my parents and I spoil my cat.
I named her 'pineapple' precisely because I loved the fruit when I was younger and I was a little obsessed with it. However, I developed an allergy when I was 10 and I couldn't eat it anymore. It was quite upsetting, but my mum was glad she didn't have to deal with my sudden cravings for it.
Last month I wanted to change her name to 'Kiwi' because that was my new favorite fruit, but I was pretty sure Pineapple would be confused as to who in the world I was calling. By the time I turn 30, my dream is to have a bunch of cats and puppies running around, and all of them would have different fruit names. Weird? Maybe. But I still loved it.
Thirty minutes into the movie we were watching, our food came. I took our pizzas and placed it on the kitchen counter. When I had paid for it, the delivery guy just stared at me, then winked, and walked off. To say I was shocked was an understatement.
"I think the delivery guy liked me, he winked at me," I said while bringing our pizza into the living room.
"I know, I saw. He was totally eye-fucking you." Isla said with a giggle.
I pressed play on our film, which was Rapunzel. My goal for the end of the year, was to re-watch all the classic Disney princess movies, which were my favourite. Rapunzel was number one in my list. I loved her and Euguene!
