KAI
I grabbed my bottle of water and poured it over me in frustration. I couldn't beat 11 seconds for over a week and it was starting to piss me off. I loved running but it was very stressful sometimes, and being unable to beat a time annoyed me. 200m was my specialty but I had to do better on the 100m. I could sense Coach staring at me so I turned around to look at him.
"Yeah, yeah. I know what you're gonna say." I groan and pick up my things. I had to take a shower.
"Kai, I'm going to look for a new personal trainer for you. I know you say you don't need one but obviously you do."
I sigh. I kind of missed Danny. He was 55 and retired last month, and ever since I refused to get a new trainer. I just preferred his techniques and I knew if I got someone else, they would try some new random things with me.
Coach got the hint that I didn't want to talk but he continued. "Danny actually requested that when he leaves I should contact someone specific. He said they're great at their job and would help you a lot. I'm going to set up a meeting with her soon."
"Her?" I say confused.
"Yes, her. Women do this job too you know."
I scoff, "I know that."
I say goodbye and make my way to the showers. Being in the top three runners for the UK was hard. It came with a lot of stress and the media was constantly on our backs. If you slipped for even a little, they would know, and they wouldn't hesitate to let everyone know.
I hated the media. I had racked up a lot of fame as my rank became higher and higher and now they wouldn't leave me alone. Fame came with a few good things but a whole buttload of bad things too. I couldn't slip, and I knew Coach was right about me getting a new trainer.
After showering and changing, I left to my car, reversing out of the car park. It was past two and I had been training for a long time. I just wanted to go home and rest.
As if the universe knew, my phone started ringing, and I answered the call from Jason. "What's up?"
"Hello, mate! You wanna get a coffee?"
I sigh. I didn't even like coffee. "Sure. The usual place?" I ask.
We arranged to meet up at the cafe near my house since he was nearby. I entered the cafe and found my best friend sitting at the booth nearest to the door. "What's up, bro?" He asks and dabs me up.
"Where's Isla? You're always with her, no?"
He chuckles. "She's at home. I was about to tell you though, she met with Madison yesterday." He pauses expecting me to say something. "Madison. Madison Lacy. The girl you had issues with back in school."
"No way, dimple face is back?" I smile to myself. Jason had been my best friend since like my first year in primary school till the end of high school. That's how he knew about Madison.
I met her whilst I was in Year 9. The year 9s were paired up with some of the younger years during that sports day to make it fair for everyone or something. I'm pretty sure Isla was Madison's best friend although Isla was in our year, and Maddie was one year below us.
I was paired with Maddie during some stupid egg and spoon race and our feet were tied together, so we had to work together to win. I did not want to win since I had set my mind on pissing off a teacher who was rude to me that day. Maddie, however, was a different story and she was set on winning. Long story short, we came 8th place, just before the last pair, and boy was she fuming.
Ever since then, she hated me. We had to see a lot of each other since Isla and Jason were together throughout high school. Now, yes, I know I was wrong about it, but after that, I found it hilarious winding her up, and I annoyed her all the time. She always fought back though, which is what I liked.
