5: Magical Prowess

After the whole debacle with my rage, I waited in the back of the line. Considering I broke peoples' bones, I got off easy with just being the last to go. I wasn't impatient, but I was anxious because of all the whispering about me and the peoples' glares. It seemed that I was already in for a rough time. Not that I wasn't having one already.

I sighed as the door opened. Inside seemed to be an infirmary with over a hundred beds. Only one person was in the room, seemingly the doctor. He had long, black hair in a low ponytail, and grey eyes were covered in glasses. He took one look at the long line of 493 examinees and sighed.

"OK, so this Magic Assessment tells us of your capacity for magic and your attribute. Most people only have one attribute: Water, Fire, Wind, Spatial, Thunder, Poison, Earth, Ice, Chaos, and Light. It is very rare to have two, incredibly rare for three, and near impossible for all. In fact, there is only one person in history to have all the attributes, and that was a Demon. So, don't be too discouraged if you have one attribute. For reference, the five attributes we see the most are Water, Fire, Wind, Thunder, and Earth. Poison and Ice are somewhat rare. The three attributes we see the least are Spatial, Chaos and Light." The doctor explained the Magic Assessment in monotone, "Now get into five equal lines."

It was clear he didn't want to be there, but it also seemed like he knew what he was doing. I just hoped he wouldn't let his boredom get the better of him by the time I came up in the last of the four lines.

Despite his clear boredom, this man was very efficient at his job. It took around five seconds for him to identify each candidate, and two to three words to describe their attribute. For instance, the first person's attribute was "Low, Wind." And then, "NEXT!" His voice was extremely loud, which is why I knew this.

After a short amount of time, I stepped up to him. He was sitting at his desk and spared no look at me, just at his tablet device. I guessed this was how he got the results so quickly.

Everyone was sitting on beds, talking amongst themselves. It seems we couldn't move on until everyone was done.

"OK, step up on that scale." He said, still not looking up.

I stepped up without a delay. And then...

"WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE NUMBERS?!" He screamed, "THEY'RE OFF THE CHARTS!!!"

The talking suddenly stopped. This examiner, so monotone and disinterested, screamed? What happened to make him so flustered?

"What's... wrong?" I asked cautiously.

He finally looked at me when I asked that. He was so surprised he couldn't even speak. He showed me the chart that was on his screen.

"WHAT THE...?!" It was my turn to scream.

Not only were my numbers at the highest value, but somehow, I had all the attributes! Didn't he say only a demon had all the attributes, and that was only one in history? How could I have all the attributes when I've never even known who I am?

"You... who are you?!" He found his words.

I shook my head, "I... don't know."

"You don't know...? Your name! What's your name?!

"It's Ookami Akahi..." I trailed off.

He sighed, put the chart on the table, and sat back in his chair, "That explains a lot. Why did you come here?"

"To become a Demon Slayer...?" I tilted my head.

"Do you really not know who you are?" He glared.

"Yeah. I'm just an amnesiac, after all." I smiled sadly.

"OK." He took a deep breath before yelling, "OK, that's a wrap. On to the Mock Battles!"

Everyone in the room, including myself, was dumbfounded. What in the world just happened?

But we couldn't feel that way for long because the next door opened. We had to fight other candidates and slay Demons next.
