Yuji found himself alone in his consciousness once again, contemplating the chaotic events of the day. He had discovered that he wasn't Esme himself but rather Esme's vessel, chosen by Esme rather than being implanted or transmigrated by someone else's will. Esme had chosen him, and now he wondered: Was it Esme's will that led him to the temple? Were the feelings he had towards Sukuna truly his own, or were they Esme's? Why was he involved in the first place? Was it merely a coincidence? These questions plagued Yuji, but he doubted Esme could provide the answers, as Esme had likely been asleep within him the entire time. Yuji had only partially gathered Esme's memories; he was not Esme himself, but a different version of Esme in another world. This convoluted theory troubled Yuji deeply.

Imagining himself as a pawn in someone else's grand scheme because of a powerful yet foolish father figure was disheartening. A being who viewed their creations as mere tools, giving them life, personality, and feelings, only to dispose of them at will, seemed incredibly insensitive. Being set into a predetermined role, acting as a cog in a grand narrative, with no control over one's destiny, was a true tragedy.

Yuji wished to delve deeper into his consciousness, yearning to learn more about Esme and Sukuna's lives. He hoped he would have the chance to understand them better, but he feared this might be his last opportunity.

"Welcome home, my love."

"I have been waiting for you this entire time, my love. It has been centuries since I last spoke to you," Sukuna said, caressing Esme's face, which was now within Yuji's body.

"I missed your voice so much," Sukuna's voice softened, his eyes displaying a gentle kindness that seemed almost out of character for such a formidable figure. Esme chuckled, finding his lover adorable and cherishing this side of him that they had missed so dearly.

"How are you?" Esme asked. Sukuna responded with a smile, and Esme couldn't help but feel sorrowful for his lover's situation.

"I see, you are doing well, somehow?" Esme reached for Sukuna's face, touching his cheeks. Sukuna leaned into Esme's hand, kissing it gently and humming in response.

"You probably retrieved parts of my soul, and they must be in the realm, right? Did you kill Father while I was not around?" Esme asked as Sukuna continued to kiss his palm, brushing against his hand. Sukuna slowly closed his eyes, lost in the gentle touch he loved so much. He hummed again in response.

"I see. Is the realm stable now? Are you managing it if Father is gone? How many centuries did it take you to bring him down?" Esme inquired. Sukuna sat down on the ground, still holding Esme in his arms, hugging him tightly, and getting lost in the goddess's scent.

"Many. Can't count," he replied briefly before kissing Esme's neck. Esme chuckled softly.

"Come back, Esme," Sukuna's voice weakened, sounding almost like a plea. Esme could feel the shakiness and anxiety in his voice. Sukuna's hands were trembling. Esme found it hard to believe that Sukuna, who was not weak and would never show vulnerability to anyone, could be so deeply affected by him.

"I can't. The moment Yuji learns about my past lives, his life will be endangered. The curse will spread through his body, and he will eventually die, just like every other host I've had. I die every time I remember my past," Esme said, sadness evident in his voice as he hugged Sukuna back.
