"Fuck being the bigger person. Normalize hating until it consumes you and makes you bitter."

Rowan explained the situation to Sam and asked if he could help his family. Not for the Cullens or Bella, but for the humans on their side of the border. The two had managed to come up with a schedule. Everyone was still weary of Rowan. The reservation elders the most, even though he and Sam were on good terms and Jacob was his friend. It didn't matter, he scared them. He was the unknown, the unthinkable, he wasn't supposed to be excited.

As the days passed, both sides spoke through Rowan. Everyone had been busy; Rowan still hadn't eaten or had any blood. Rosalie felt like he was punishing himself for something, but no one could figure it out. The Vampling wouldn't let anyone close to him. The blonde female thought he was going back to his old ways. She could see her brother and husband trying to get close to him. The tanned vampire would be at every trade-off, he'd go to every meeting, and he was stretching himself so thin that she could see the pain coming back.

He was now sitting in the living room with the Cullens males, minus Edward. Rowan watched the news and only one thing kept repeating in his mind. Newborn army, Jasper had been working his way to being closer to the nomad. Both Rowan and Jasper felt a pull towards each other but was dismissed it as them being curious. Jasper wouldn't admit it but since Rowan's outburst about Alice. He couldn't help but notice the subtleties now. The way she gravitated toward Edward more than him. How Alice dressed everyone in a color scheme that only Edward seemed to like. The way her emotions seemed confused, excited, and longing when she was around the brooding vampire. It made Jasper think he was just a placeholder because she didn't get the one she wanted. Hell, she even took over his room when they first came to Cullens. It reeked of his scent and took forever to fade around. Mainly because she wouldn't let Jasper get rid of the smell. Of course, everyone but the self-absorbed trio, Alice, Edward, and Bella, seemed to have noticed the cowboy's longing for the shifting vamping. They were just waiting to see what would happen.

When Edward and Bella walked in, the others stiffened. Rowan groaned under his breath but louder in his mind. The curly-haired brunette male subtly moved closer to the empath, letting their thighs touch. While they spoke about what was on the news, Edward bore holes into the side of Rowan's face. That was until Carlisle told Edward to stop going through his thoughts. After Edward went to drop Bella off. Rowan jumped up, "welp I'm bored. Anyone wanna play a game?" A wolfish smirk appeared on his usually stoic face. One that the father figure hadn't seen in a very long time. The Cullen men agreed, and they all went outside, the women joining when they returned from feeding. For that small moment in time, they chased after the constantly shifting vampire, laughing. The family was enjoying themselves, all but Rosalie noticing how thin both forms seemed to be and how dark his normally vibrant eyes were. The blonde vampire couldn't help but feel worried for her best friend.

Jasper wasn't the only one getting closer to the shifting vampire. On the other side of the treaty line, Jacob was making his way through each wall. While the Cullen's and Rowan were out hunting, Jacob had kissed Bella at the shoreline. The building of their potential mate bond severed at that moment, it was gone in less than a heartbeat. This made Rowan collapse mid-jump, crashing into the dirt and rocks below. The earth moved around his body until the thin male came to a stop. Now buried in a pile of the earth he loved so much.

The sickening crunching sound of Rowan's bones cracking and breaking, this time was different. Rowan's guttural pained scream was a major difference. The vampling refused to let Edward touch him so Jasper scooped him up and Rosalie who had eaten already followed them while telling the others that they should eat. Rosalie had fixed the wolf up while Jasper helped his sister. Breaking and resetting his bones as they were mostly healed. When they had finished, the rest of the Cullens and Hales were waiting in the living room. The 'twins' came down and told them that he was fine now. Jasper went out to finish feeding and clear his mind. It pained his entire fiber on himself to do that to the halfling. The cowboy could still feel the shifter's heat on his skin.
