Chapter 1

ASTRA tapped her manicured nails impatiently on the marble table, her gaze fixed on the frothy cappuccino swirling in her cup. The aroma of coffee and pastries filled the air of her own café-starly café- The coffee shop she started when she was just 25, and now I'm 28.

"So, you're really not going with me?" she asked, her voice dripping with a carefully controlled disdain.

Across the table, her three best friends, Alrah, Drix, and Zayeil, exchanged nervous glances. They were all dressed in their usual chic attire.

"Astra, we're really sorry," Alrah said, her voice laced with guilt. "We really tried to make it work, but... well, you know how it is."

"Oh, I know," Astra retorted, her eyes narrowing. "How convenient."

Alrah winced, her gaze dropping to her lap. Drixton shifted uncomfortably in his seat, while Zayaeil tried to offer a weak smile.

"Stara, we really didn't want to cancel," Drixton said, his voice soft. "This Malaysian deal is huge. It could really change things for my company. It's not just about the money. It's about the opportunity to expand our operations and make a real difference in the industry."

"And for you," Astra added, her voice laced with sarcasm. "More money, more status, more... distractions."

"It's not like that," Zayeil protested, her voice rising slightly. "This California trip is important for my career. It's a chance to network with some big players in the industry. I've been working towards this for years, and I can't miss this opportunity."

"And Alrah?" Astra asked, her gaze turning to her friend. "I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time."

Alrah's eyes welled up with tears. "Astra, you know how important this is to my family. We haven't all been together in years. My grandparents are getting older, and we want to make the most of the time we have with them. This trip is a chance to create new memories before it's too late. I know it sounds selfish, but it's important to me."

Astra sighed, her anger slowly giving way to a wave of disappointment. She knew her friends were telling the truth. Their reasons were valid, their excuses legitimate. But it didn't make it any easier to swallow.

"Fine," she said, her voice tight. "Go. Have your fun. But don't expect me to be happy about it."

She watched as they all left.

Now she's alone. Great. Just fucking great.

A minutes after her friends left, she decided to go home.

While driving, her mind is in chaos. She's thinking a lot of things that make the situation worse. She just wanted to be with them! They already planned it a months ago.
Now she's going there alone? Fuck.

Sa sobrang lalim ng pag-iisip n'ya hindi n'ya namalayan na nakarating na s'ya.

Nang makababa s'ya nang sasaka'y agad siyang sinalubong ni Karsen- our driver. Karsen is just a year older than her.

"Good morning, Ma'am Stara." Magiliw na bati nito.

"How many times do I have to tell you that i can park my own car, Karsen?"

"And just Stara... cut the Ma'am. Get it?" I added.

"It's my job to park your car, Stara."

"Whatever you say, Karsen, whatever you say."
