As some of you may have seen, I've done a few updates on my stories to make them look better, but some (White Flag and others) I've left mostly unchanged because I don't want to get rid of all the beautiful comments you guys leave. <3

My eyes shot open to the sound of a whistling kettle and I rolled over, suddenly unaware of my surroundings.

"Since when do you sleep on the couch?"

I frowned, sitting upright, brushing my knuckles over my eyelids. Looking over the couch, Da moved around the kitchen, pouring hot water into a mug of presumably coffee. My heart pounded against my ribcage, like I had been caught doing something wrong.

He looked over his shoulder, "Angel?"

Mind foggy from sleep, I raked my fingers through my hair, "I don't."

He chuckled. "Coffee?"

"No thank you." I swung my legs over the couch, noticing my phone was on the floor.

My eyes widened. The fog cleared.

"I'd expect it from Sarah." He approached an armchair nearby, a newspaper tucked under his armpit. "She fell asleep with the TV on again."

I nodded, trying to calm the beat in my chest.

"Are you okay, angel?"

"Yes," I said quickly. "Yes, just waking up."

"You need to be careful you're not stressing yourself out. Three tournaments this month, right?"

I bobbed my head - three including Italy. For years, he had travelled with me to competitions, the weekends at the golf club, and now we narrowly saw each other. Every time I invited him to a tournament, he declined. Ever since Nick left. Business is business.

Confident he was focused on the newspaper, I retrieved my phone from the floor, tucking it into my pocket. Da would have no way of knowing I spent the whole night messaging a Formula 1 driver.

"Where are you off to next?"

"Switzerland."

He nodded, sipping on his coffee. "Where did you place in Italy?"

Even if it was a real tournament, he wouldn't have watched it. That stopped, too.

"Fifth."

He made a sound, something between affirmation and disappointment. I stood up, only looking on my phone when he was out of sight.
