Why does drama always happen in chapter twenty? I did it in White Flag and now here too...

The bus roared to a stop, releasing air to lower itself and let out a few passengers. My eyes fluttered open, and I squinted against the window, barely able to see the bus stop, everything blanketed by darkness. I shot up, wincing from the tenderness in my head. The bus started up again, and I realised there were only two other people on board, as opposed to the twelve or so from earlier. I glanced at my watch.

What?

My eyes widened, watching the big hand tick past twelve. It was eleven forty-eight - fifteen minutes until my flight. I pushed my face to the window, shielding my eyes in hopes to see a sign, or a landmark, but nothing came, the buildings we passed by lacking light and fuss.

I had slept through my stop.

I reached for the rail nearby, tapping the button vigorously, trying to conceal the panic arising in my veins.

I had slept through my stop.

Ten minutes later the bus came to a halt. I dragged my suitcase off of the bus behind me, watching the doors creak shut, a cloud of exhaust and dirt swarming me as the vehicle drove off. Wafting my hand over my face, I looked left and right, surrounded by old, Italian buildings, like a setting from a rom-com. Over my shoulder, a singular streetlight sat on top of a fountain, bereft of water and attention. Still, there was no-one in sight.

My heart thudded against my ribcage. Whipping my phone out from my pocket, I swiped through it in a panic, unsure what to do. I thudded my hand against my forehead, only to regret the action immediately by the sting that surfaced afterwards.

I had missed my flight. It was midnight, and I was in the middle of nowhere. In a foreign country, dehydrated, with a headache, and hardly any sleep.

Shit.

I tapped on my contacts, scrolling down to Lily. Except, she would be asleep, and what could she do? She'd panic as much as me, if not more, always worrying for the both of us, and would drag Alex along with her.

Alex...

I sucked in a breath, rubbing my hand over my cheek. Alex was in Monza for the Grand Prix, which is why Lily had gone there in the first place. Tomorrow was the first and second practice sessions for the drivers.

Shit.

I covered my mouth with my palm, scrolling to my blocked contacts. For a moment, my eyelids closed, a lightness in my head forcing me to sway a bit. Pushing it away, I unblocked the contact, bringing my phone to my ear.

Ring.

Ring.

Ring.

Click.

"Addison?" The voice answered in disbelief.

"Hi." I croaked, thoughts bashing together. "Uh- I'm... I'm really sorry to call you like this, but I... I didn't know what else to do. I had a flight, but on the way to the airport I fell asleep on the bus, and now I'm in the middle of no where, and it's dark and there's no signs and I didn't know who else to call-"

"Slow down, slow down." Oscar said calmly. "What happened?"

I breathed in carefully, "I was on the way to the airport but I fell asleep on the bus. In a panic I got off, but now I'm at this random stop in the Italian countryside, and I'm really scared. There's no signs and everything's really dark. I just- I didn't know who else to call. You're the only one nearby. I'm sorry."
