Chapter 5

When Jungkook reaches his room, he finds the door ajar, and his Voo looking absolutely like the cutest thing in the universe, an adorable pout on his face. So he waits by the door silently for a bit to admire the view. Because, why not? If you had the chance to stand and watch the most handsome man in the world from such close proximity, would you not? Exactly.

He is staring at the beauty that is Kim Taehyung till he realises that Taehyung is watching something on his phone, and he is engrossed, and as always, Jungkook is jealous. He almost storms in to dive into Taehyung's personal space (again), until he hears Taehyung sigh, and mumble to himself, "so that is how he looks at me. The whole world knows he looks at me like that. Why doesn't he know? When will he know? Will he ever know?" And by the time he has finished his sentence, the feeling has intensified inside Jungkook's entire being, and he has covered the distance between the two of them in long strides.

"Who looks at you like what? Show me? Who doesn't know? What does everyone know?"

Taehyung is like a deer caught in the headlights. He has no idea what to say or how to hide that he has, in fact, spent the entire morning watching Taekook analysis videos on YouTube and drooling over every moment captured on camera - of Jungkook back-hugging him, or resting his head on Taehyung's shoulder, or looking extremely jeonlous when Jimin is extra clingy, or just staring at Taehyung like he would devour him any minute. So he decides to lie.

In the blink of an eye, he's closed the app, locked his phone, and thought of the perfect lie to distract Jungkook... "Bogumie hyung. I was looking at some of his videos. And then the videos of when he visited us backstage"

Okay... maybe it wasn't the most perfect plan because Jungkook's facial expression was downright scary.

"Bogum? And how exactly does he look at you?"

"You heard it all?"

"What doesn't he know? What is it that you want him to know?"

"Umm... Gukkie... its nothing"

"You don't wanna share?"

And Taehyung hates, absolutely hates lying to his Gukkie, especially now. Because he can see how Jungkook is struggling with his emotions, and trying to understand why he is feeling the way he's feeling. He must salvage the situation. There's no point fuelling the obvious anger Jungkook harbours over his friendship with Bogum. Maybe when he figures out his own feelings, and understands what Taehyung feels for him, he will stop being so insecure.

"Aah Gukkie. You know how he is. Always teases me. Makes me feel like I'm way younger than him, like I dunno anything. Looks at me like I'm his pabo dongsaeng."

Jungkook's facial features start to relax slowly, and he plops down beside his favourite hyung, immediately caging him into a hug, "he is an idiot, not you. You are my beautiful and intelligent Taehyung. If he calls you pabo again, he's gonna have to deal with me."

"Yah Jeongukkie... he's older than us. And you know he's joking. I wonder why you don't like him, he is really fond of you"

"He doesn't need to be"

"Hey!"

"You know I don't like sharing"

"Am I a thing?"

"Nope. Nope. Nope"

"Then? Why are you always so scared when I hang out with my other friends Guk-ah? Do you doubt our bond? Is it that weak?"

"Voo!"

"No tell me"

"It's just... hmm.. Okay... It's just... what if you realise that they are way better than me and then you stop hanging out with me? And slowly you distance yourself from me because they are more fun, and more intelligent, and talented? And they're actors, and I suck at acting, and you love acting, and you're so good at it. And that's one thing I really can't do. One look at my face and people can understand that I am lying. So if you suddenly realise I am not good enough, I... no. Can't do. Not possible"

"Hey... hey... hey... Guk... Gukkie... Jeongguk-ah...look at me. Look at me"

"No"

"Look at me"

"No"

"Jeon Jeongguk"

The bunny has to look at the bear.

"Let me make this straight to you. And you listen to me very carefully. Very carefully. Yeah?"

"Hmmm"

"Gukkie"

"Yes, hyung"

"No matter who is on the other side, I will always, always, ALWAYS choose my Jeongukkie. A thousand times over. Every single time. You get it?"

And there's the bunny smile he loves, making an appearance in all its glory.

"Even if it's shorty on the other side?"

"You brat!"

They get into a pillow fight, and laugh their lungs out, and Taehyung heaves a sigh of relief, and regret... his idiot bunny wasn't able to grasp the real meaning of his confession, again.

On the other hand, when Jungkook leaves the room with Taehyung for lunch, he is still baffled about his emotions. About the insane jealousy that engulfs him whenever he hears the name of another guy from Taehyung's mouth (sometimes, he even gets jealous of the members and he knows it's seriously not done, Jimin is an exception, fucking soulmate or whatever), the way his heart picked up beats when Taehyung told him he'd always choose him (he felt like that's all he ever needed to hear from his Voo, but why? He doesn't know), and how his entire body was acutely aware of every single part of Taehyung's body he touched during the pillow fight, sending a buzz across his veins (why in the world is the man so beautiful?!). He sometimes feels he needs to take some time out and sit by himself and figure out these emotions, but he is scared. He doesn't think he will be able to figure it out, and he doesn't know who to ask. Till date, he's found all his answers from Taehyung. Whenever he is struggling with something, he speaks to Taehyung. Either Taehyung helps him find the answer, or tells him the answer, or tells him where to look for the answer, or sends him to the person who can tell him the answer. He may be a tad bit stupid but even he knows that he should not be asking Taehyung's advice on this one.

Okay, it's not that he hasn't tried. He has literally tried to ask Taehyung. But as soon as he thinks of asking - hey Voo, why does my heart hammer against my chest whenever I look into your eyes? - he realises that probably Kim Taehyung is not the right audience for this question. Nope. Nope. He definitely isn't.

Now Jungkook is not stupid. He realises that he treats Taehyung differently than he treats any other human being he loves. He is not blind. And neither is he deaf. He knows that everyone notices his obsession with the second youngest member of their band. But it's not like he does it on purpose. Jungkook has never been able to pretend. From the day Taehyung walked into his life, he has owned a huge chunk of his heart, and Jungkook just chooses to not hide it. And why would he? When Yoongi hyung scowls at everyone who tries to hug him, except for Hobi hyung, or Namjoon hyung only confides about his struggles to Jin hyung, or when (cough, all the time, cough) Jimin obsesses over compliments from Yoongi hyung, no one raises a single eyebrow, but if Jungkook thinks his world begins and ends with Taehyung, then that's a problem. Talk about hypocrisy. (He obviously and very conveniently overlooks the fact that it is also true that all of them are dying for Hobi's acknowledgement, and all of them fight for Yoongi's attention, and all of them are the biggest fanboys of RM, and all of them love Jin to death, and all of them are secretly jealous of the tenacity and talent Jimin has, but who cares, this is Jungkook's mind, and it wants to think what it wants to think).

But lately, even Jungkook has realised that his jealousy, his yearning to be around Taehyung, and the frequency with which Taehyung clouds his mind have increased significantly. Especially since the pandemic broke out and they've started staying together again. For a bit (he is ashamed, really), his only thought was that wow, he'd be waking up beside Taehyung again, till he realised what he was doing and turned his thoughts to the more serious affairs at hand. It's almost like he can't control his mind when it comes to Taehyung. Kim Taehyung has always broken all his walls and boundaries with just his presence in Jungkook's life, and it's like he's powerless in front of his beautiful soul. But right now, it seems like things are getting out of hand.
