When we got there a fight was happening. "That looks like Yami," I murmured.

William glanced at me. "You know him?"

"Bumped into him once when you were off on your mission," I replied trying to keep the bitterness out of my voice. Apparently, I failed because he gave me a look. I looked away. "Anyway, he uses dark magic. As you can see," I added when Yami used dark slash.

He nodded. "Okay." He used his magic to block an attack that was coming from behind Yami.

Yami looked at us. "Y/n, who's that with you?"

"A friend," I replied. "Looks like you could use some help."

He made a face. "No, I think I've got this."

William again had to block an attack on him. I smirked. "Really? It doesn't look like it."

He looked away. "That was just a fluke."

"Sure it was." I shut my eyes and focused. "You do know there are about 90 of these guys, right?" I asked as I opened my eyes.

He grimaced. "I can count."

"You can?" I replied raising an eyebrow. "I'm impressed. I didn't think you could."

He scowled. "Who's team are you on?"

I shrugged. "Mine." Together we defeated them. However, I hate that the leader got away. I walked away as William and Yami started talking. When I got to the spot the guy disappeared at, I cursed. "Spacial magic," I growled. Of course, he had one of those mages with him, dammit!

"Y/n? Are you okay?" William asked.

I forced myself to calm down and smiled at him. "Of course. Just trying to figure out how I didn't sense the spacial magic user."

He frowned at me. "Y/n..."

I looked away. "Later," I muttered at him.

"Oh, so it's something you can't tell me?" Yami asked raising an eyebrow.

I looked at him. "When have I ever talked to you about stuff that I know you wouldn't care to know?"

He thought about it. "I suppose you haven't."

I made a face. "That's because I'm not cruel."

"But you are a noble."

My jaw clenched. "Watch it, Yami," I growled at him. "You know perfectly well that I don't give a shit about my lineage. Most importantly, I am not a noble anymore."

He smirked. "Once a noble always a noble."

"Shut up, foreigner," I shot back. We glared at each other then I sighed. "Alright. I give. Your idea of distracting me worked."

He laughed. "I knew it would."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And how did you know that?"

"Simple. You easy to read."

I scowled. "No, I'm not." Otherwise, they would know that I was always an only child. No one knows this but me and my parents. For now. I haven't even told William.

"Oh, you are. Like I can tell you're hiding something." He glanced at William. "She tell you what she's hiding?"

William hesitated then shook his head. "Even if she did I wouldn't tell you."

I gave him a grateful look. Yami looked from me to William and back again. "Are you two dating?"

"No!" William and I said at the same time.

He snorted. "Looks like you are."

"Shut up," I snapped.

He chuckled and walked away. William looked at me. "Are you hiding something from me?"

I looked at the ground. "Yes, but it's because it's a family secret and none of us like thinking about it." I looked at him. "It hurts. That's why I haven't told you. I don't want to relive the memory."

He nodded. "Will you tell me eventually?"

I thought about that for a minute then nodded slowly. "Maybe."

He hugged me. "Okay. I won't rush you."

My mouth twitched. "I didn't think you would."

He stepped back. "You're the only friend I've ever had. I don't want to lose you."

Now I hugged him. "You're stuck with me," I told him firmly.

He hugged back then we both stepped out of the hug. "Good."

I looked away said he didn't see me smiling. No one usually likes having me around. My mom didn't because I didn't listen to her. My dad did but there were times when he got tired of hearing my mom complain so he avoided me. And my sibling...I ground my teeth together. Stop thinking about it! I looked around. "We should probably go and give our report to Julius." I started walking away. William didn't move. I looked at him and frowned. "Um, William? You coming?"

"I've been keeping a secret from you too," he blurted.

I blinked. "Okay. Everyone has their secrets."

"I want to tell you."

"Oh." I leaned against a tree. "Okay."

"I share my body with an elf named Patri."

I froze and studied him closely. "Do you mean an elf spirit is inside of you?"

"Sort of. We figured out recently that we can switch with each other. One minute I'm me and then next I could be him. But we only switch when we want to."

I stood there for a minute. "Doesn't he hate humans? I mean he blames them for what happened to his people, right?"

He gave a small nod. "He's planning something to deal with that."

I walked over to him. "You mean he's going to kill us all," I stated flatly.

He grimaced. "He's still working it out."

"You know that could me I'd end up fighting you, right?" I told him. "If he's you during that time, I'll have to fight him to stop his plans."

He hesitated. "He said he won't go after you.'

"So? You think I'll just stand by and watch everyone die?"

"I...No." There was hurt and pain in his eyes.

I forced myself to calm down. "It's okay, William. I just have to convince Patri that humans aren't to blame for what happened."

He frowned. "We didn't? Then who did?"

I sighed. "A devil."

"A devil? How are you so sure?"

"Because thanks to my damn magic I can sometimes see into the past and I've had to watch that scene over and over again."

He was silent for a minute. "Patri wants to talk to you."

I thought about that. "Okay."

He took off his mask and slowly started changing. His hair lengthened, his scars disappeared, red paint slid onto his face, and his eyes changed to gold. "Hello, Y/n," Patri said.
