I looked at him evenly. "Hello, Patri. How are you?"

He scowled. "Let's skip the pleasanties. You can't stop me from doing what needs to be done."

I raised an eyebrow. "Needs? More like it's what you want to do." I paused. "Oh, and I can stop you. I use golden magic, which the elves first discovered, right?"

He glared. "So? What's your point?"

"An elf can stop an elf," I replied.

"You aren't an elf."

"No, but one of my ancestors was. They had just cut their ears to match into the human society." My sibling had been the one who got the elven look. I just got the magic.

"Why would they do something as stupid as that? They shouldn't have tried to blend in with humans after what they did."

"A devil did that," I said looking at my nails nonchalantly.

"Bullshit."

I glanced at him. "Believe what you want but I won't let you hurt anyone." We glared at each other then he turned back to William. "That's creepy to watch," I informed him.

He sighed. "I had hoped you two would be friends."

"Not happening."

He studied me for a minute. "I didn't know your ancestors were elves."

Neither did I until my sibling was born. I shrugged. "I only found out recently."

He studied me for a minute. "Really?"

"Yes." It hurt to lie to him but I wasn't ready to tell yet. I'll tell him someday. I forced myself to ignore everything and smiled at him. "Shall we go tell Julius our report?"

He looked where Yami had disappeared. "I'll be right back. I want to talk to him."

I blinked. "Uh, okay."

"Be right back." He walked away.

Why would he want to talk to Yami? Does he think I'm lying to him? Hell, am I worrying for nothing? Probably. Happens lately. Okay, I just need to calm down. I'm jumping at ghosts. Figuratively, of course. Though I sometimes do actually see ghosts. Not fun. They're attracted to my magic.

"Hello," a soft voice said. One that I knew.

I shut my eyes. "Emma." My sister who died. "It's been a while."

She smiled. "It has. You grew up to be quite beautiful."

I opened my eyes. "Are you implying that I was an ugly child?"

She snorted. Yes, ghosts can snort. "You weren't ugly but you weren't beautiful either."

Ouch. "What do you want?" I asked tiredly.

"Hmm, just wondering when you'll tell him about me." She was running her hands along a tree.

I stared. "Why should I? That was one of the most painful things I've ever had to watch."

"You love him so you'll have to tell him if you want to be with him."

"I don't like him like that."

She rolled his eyes. "I sincerely doubt that's true."

I scowled. "Screw you."

She shrugged. "I'm a ghost, so what can I do?"

"I doubt that will stop you from doing something about this."

She smiled slightly. "Oh, little sis. You know me so well."

"Sadly," I muttered grumpily.

"Hmm, he's hot. Have you seen him without the mask?"

"Yes," I bit out. Wait, did she just say he was hot? "Hey, he's mine," I growled.

She laughed. "Is he? You two aren't dating so he's open game."

"You're dead," I snapped.

A small bit of sadness slid into her eyes. "I know," she said quietly.

Crap, now I feel guilty. "Okay. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to remind you of that."

She nodded. "You think about it all the time, don't you?"

"I can't seem to not think about it."

"It wasn't your fault."

"But if I had used my magic..."

"Y/n, it was not your fault," she said firmly.

That's what she thinks, I thought grimly. But it was. "Okay," I said just to appease her.

She scowled. "I know you're lying through your teeth, Y/n. I'm your older sister."

True. I shrugged. "It will be a while before I believe that, sister."

She studied me for a minute. "Okay. I guess I did force you to watch what happened."

My eyes narrowed. "Not only did you do that but you tied me to your bed leg so I could run then you ducktaped my mouth so I couldn't scream." I heard a noise. "Crap, go. William's coming back." She nodded and disappeared while I forced myself to calm down. I really hate her sometimes.
